The HOOK in Action
Jaime Oliver, celebrated chef, gives a great example of a HOOK followed by an INTRO in this clip. (His message is also really important.)

Check it out. Then write to me. Tell me
several other effective presentation behaviors Jaime models.

To win a prize, please also tell me the one biggest thing he does that distracts from the power of his delivery. (If you've taken a workshop from me recently, you should notice this right away!)

I'm looking forward to hearing from you. The first three people to name the DISTRACTING presentation behavior will receive a Starbucks card worth $10.

Thanks to David Gels for bringing this clip to my attention!
Presenting: Mental Preparation for Physical Success
Guila
Presenting is a highly physical activity. Don't leave your body at home!

Mental preparation will improve your physical delivery.

Think:

  • "Movement UP." This will automatically improve your posture (and it's more effective than hearing your Mom's voice in your head).
  • "I'm amplifying a part of my BEST SELF."  Be "bigger" than you would normally be. Let the best part of yourself shine. Take up more room!
  • "I will let people's faces be my home." Truly be present. Make eye contact and smile.
Remember that the best speakers use their whole bodies, not just their heads, to present. Have fun!
