Group Decisions: Prevent the Nightmare
Helping a group come to a decision challenges even the best facilitators. These guidelines will help.
-
Remind the group where it has already created agreement.
- State exactly where a group is in the process. This keeps them focused on the next step.
- State what the next steps are.
Here's how it might sound:
"So far, we have agreed to save $5,000 by eliminating new
purchases. Our next step is to decide what other steps we can take to save
money. Remember, we have already agreed on these six guidelines to help us as we trim our
budget." (Review the guidelines.)
Hint: Use both visual and auditory reinforcements. The group
needs cues to remind it where it has come from and where it's going.
