Lots of people would love to "go green," but worry they can't afford it. I've spent this past year calculating the cost of specific "eco" lifestyle and shopping changes and guess what I've discovered? You can save almost $4,000 every year if you live a greener life.

Here's one way to do it:

Compact Fluorescent Light - Save $5 - $10/yr per bulb

Reusable Water Bottle - Save $500/yr on bottled water

Take Lunch to Work - Save $1560/yr on take-out
(and cut the throwaway trash)

Programmable Thermostat - Save $150/yr on heating and cooling

Low Flow Shower Heads,
H2O Saving Toilets
- Save $72/yr on water

Smart Power Strip - Save $94/yr on energy for electronics

Window and Door Weather Stripping - Save $129/yr on home heating/cooling

Improve Car Fuel Economy -
upgrade from 20 mph to 35 mph - Save $884/yr on gasoline
drive speed limit, don't tail gate - Save $600/yr

Skip One Driving Trip Each Week - Save $225/yr on gasoline

Make-at-Home Cleansers - Save $300/yr on soaps, polishes, waxes, scrubs

Total - $3,640/yr

PLUS: Swap, Trade Using Freecycle.org, EBay, Craig's List - additional $$$$$

I want to invite you to add your voice to "The Prevention Agenda," a new forum that is urging President- Elect Obama to do what few other presidential administrations have done in recent history: make preventing threats to the environment and human health a top priority.

The forum is amassing recommendations to prevent climate change, toxic exposures, food contamination, water pollution and other dangers that affect both people and the planet. The recommendations will be synthesized into an Agenda that will be submitted to the Obama transition team.

The goal is to help focus the Obama vision for change into a commitment to make preventing environmental crises before they occur a cornerstone of the new administration.

It will only take you five minutes to join the forum. Your input could affect our country's future for decades. Please sign up, and invite your friends, associates and colleagues to contribute their thoughts and ideas as well.
