Greetings!

Kinetics is excited to launch our new pilot program www.ParentConnect.co. The goal of ParentConnect.co is to improve student academic achievement and parent involvement at Edmondson Heights Elementary.

ParentConnect.co provides support, information and resources for parents and educators to facilitate collaboration and good working relationships for student success.  ParentConnect.co will also offer Culturally Relevant Events & Field Trips, Parent & Faculty Workshops and afterschool programs.

We are currently working with the School Improvement Team to host David Miller on November 16, 2010. The theme for the evening is Generation at Risk?

I recently joined the advisory board for the Salvation Army's Boys & Girls Club and would like to invite you to take a tour on November 5, 2010 of the Greater Baltimore Area Command. Additional information is provided below.

I would also like to thank everyone who supported Youth Justice Sunday. We had a great turnout and a wonderful event. If you are interested in joining this growing coalition please send me an email @ info@kineticnet.org . Our work has just begun.

In love & service,

Jamye Wooten

Twice Exceptional Learners

Next meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education (GTCAC) We've mentioned this meeting all year, the logistics have finally come together...   Twice Exceptional Learners

Guest presenterKarin Tulchinsky-Cohen,  Director of Training, Weinfeld Education Group

Monday November 8, 2010 7pm  Room 114 of the ESS building  (behind the BCPS headquarters building, 6901 Charles Street, Towson 21204)

Some folks don't even realize that it is possible for a person to be both gifted & talented as well as learning challenged (dyslexia, ADHD, autism, other learning obstacles) -- twice exceptional or "2E."  And "bright students with learning difficulties are often not identified because their brilliance and roughness may mask one another."  Parents of these "diamonds in the rough" students know the issues they face.

Please join us for this enlightening evening as our guest speaker discusses for parents the characteristics of 2E students, identification methods, exceptional program models, and parenting tips.  She will focus on looking through the lens of 4 Best Practices: 1) teaching to learners' strengths, 2) direct support in areas of need, 3) adaptations and accommodations and 4) effective case management and home-school partnerships.

All are welcome!

This is a joint meeting with the Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee.
