If you are willing and able to fly to Japan, Miura offers the special "experience" of a fitting, a tour of the foundry, a round of golf with Mr. Miura, a stop at the ninth for a spell in the Miura Tour Van to spiff up the grind. Then you finish with a sauna, bath and dinner. And you get a set of golf clubs. Not counting airfare, the price is $25,000. I'm just creating perspective in case you let your subscription to the Robb Report run out.
When Tour players ask Mr. Miura to make them a set of clubs the price is $10,000. There are dozens of those.
So, if you would like to have your own set of custom Miura irons - you'll start by discussing the project with Mr. Miura himself - your irons will be ground and finished by Mr. Miura himself. Each iron will carry Mr. Miura's "Hanko" or maker's mark - just like the craftsmen who forged Samurai swords centuries ago. Repeat: your irons will be hand ground by Mr. Miura himself - no fooling. The price is $750 per club or $6000 for the set. That's a better deal than the pros get.
If that's a little rich, there's a second option. You can order the same irons or wedges and they will be ground and finished under Mr. Miura's guidance and supervision. Each head will be available in satin or black, each stamped with the players initials, color filled to taste and then stamped with the special "circle K" stamp that is reserved for "Miura Custom" irons. The price is $400 per club.
And then there's the Golf Lab incentive option for players who would like to own Miura irons but have three young kids all expecting to go to college.
Miura irons and wedges are rarely discounted. On Miura Saturday, we will offer a one-time chance for Golf Lab customers to pick up a Miura wedge or set of wedges for $175 for single wedge or $450 for a set of three wedges. That's just a little more than off the rack alternatives. And, you can have your choice of premium shafts: Aerotech 125's, KB Tours or Nippons. Mr. Miura likes it when the cash register rings so we'll do our part if you'll do yours. Miura wedges sell for $225 daily.
We have three sets of Miura irons that are so lightly used that they could pass for new. On Saturday, we're going to let them go to the first buyer for just $900 each - with choice of shaft and built to our exacting standards. That's custom made for you at eBay prices. Mr. Miura doesn't like it when his golf clubs are hanging on the wall instead of resting in a player's bag. We also have five sets of brand new, conforming groove 501's on the "Iron Wall". Mr. Miura would like to take an order home.
For customers who still haven't been to the new Golf Lab, 1100 Industrial in San Carlos, Unit 10 - (650) 654-1770 - now is a good time. We've been taking our sweet time moving in to the new space. Our goal is to make it as different from the old Lab as night and day. One of the features is the "Iron Wall" - over 60 sets of irons representing the best models going back sixty years. Every set can be customized to modern standards. As you would expect we have every Miura model including many of the "Private Label" versions.
To sweeten the pot we're going to do something extraordinary with our fittings. The essence of fitting Miura irons is the experience of hitting them off of grass. We always start a fitting with sophisticated electronic analysis that can pin down the best shaft by performance. We always finish a fitting by sending a player to the range with the exact irons that test the best. Then, the player makes the final decision by feel and ball flight.
Our Miura iron fittings are $150, but on Saturday we'll give you a coupon for a half price iron fitting - just $75 - and that includes the full Flightscope treatment and a trip to the range to be sure. BTW: All of our demos are Miuras. There are set up with premium shafts in all weights and all flexes. If you want to test two irons side by side, you don't have to go through the rigmarole of swapping heads. Our goal is efficiency. There's no need to wonder if Miura's feel better. You can know.
