Greetings!
Tonight and Thursday: 5-7 PM - Putting Club at the Golf Lab
The Putting Club is "coming of age". Practice makes perfect. We've logged enough time with the new Science and Motion (SAM) Putt Lab to fully understand the process and the results. You will be amazed. Players are seeing immediate results.
Doesn't it make sense to work on your putting at the Putting Lab?
New this week are the "Putter Fitting" and the "Putter Comparison" modules. Bring all the putters from your garage. Test them. Thin the herd based on performance. Isn't it time to find out what putter style is best to aim? What's more important than that?
Also new this week is the debut of "The Collection". Leith will have a selection of the most interesting putters from his collection - past and present for trial and comparison purposes. If interest develops, we could stage "putter swap meet" as an extra feature for Putting Club.
Putting Club is $25 per session or $100 for a "month" (8 sessions).

Saturday December 4th - Mr. Miura & Company Visit
|
|
|
The Golf Lab was one of the very first custom golf shops to represent Miura in North America. On Saturday - in recognition of our long-term relationship with his company - Mr. Katsuhiro Miura and his executive team will visit the Golf Lab.
This is not a ceremonial visit. Mr. Miura and his team are working all day at the Golf Lab - getting acquainted - setting strategy - meeting with customers - telling the Miura story - answering questions - having lunch - meeting the press - celebrating at dinner. What a day we have coming!!
And you're invited.
Early Saturday morning will be devoted to business meetings.
The Main Event is at 11 AM. That's when Miura's new president, Adam Barr (remember him as the equipment editor from the Golf Channel?) - will introduce Mr. Miura who will have some remarks for the group.
Then, Adam will discuss Miura's history and his plans for the future running a very small but very Global company. Whether you're already a Miura "True Believer" or you're still stuffing your piggy bank for your first set - this will be an intimate way to get to know what Miura is all about.
For the philosophers and business students there will surely be some enlightenment about what it takes to be the best in the world. Think for a moment about what Mr. Miura has accomplished.
At noon we'll have the "Famous Taco Truck" in the parking lot so we can socialize in the California sun. Plenty of time to meet and greet the contingent from Miura including Bill Holowaty, Ted Cotter and Ed Kobayashi - "Mr. Hockey in Japan".
At 1, David is conducting our normal Saturday AimPoint clinic. There are still a couple of spots available so if you want to make a day of it, sign up for AimPoint. AimPoint goes from 1 until 3:30. You'll see a hockey player putt.
The afternoon schedule is undefined - so far. We're going to work out some kind of special deal with Miura for a "true custom" grind. We'll arrange a private meeting with Mr. Miura, Adam and Leith or David to discuss any personal options for a set of irons or wedges to be custom ground by Mr. Miura. Each of these irons will be stamped with Mr. Miura's own "Hands of God" signature. There is nothing in the world more unique than this option. Not even Tiger got this special touch.
This might be a very good time to update your irons fitting. You'll be hearing more about surprising testing results using very light iron shafts. That would be a good reason to specify your custom grinds with heavier head weights. If you want to check your iron fitting, we can test for shaft weight performance in just 30 minutes. Worth doing. We can squeeze it in this week if you're serious.
If you want to take advantage of this option, please get in touch with Dian at (650) 654-1770 to reserve a Saturday afternoon private appointment. Further details will follow. Please be aware that the available times are limited.
We're taking reservations. We only have 20 seats for the 11 AM session. Seating preference will be given to clients who express an interest in making a Miura purchase. We're not prepared for a large crowd so if the meeting room fills, there will be plenty of standing room in the parking lot.
We're going to ask for a credit card to secure your reservation. There is no charge for any of the events, but any "no show" - without prior cancellation - will be charged $100. Alas, a few good customers need to be reminded that once time is lost, it is irreplaceable. |

The Putting Doctor is "In" Next Week
|
|
Glen Coombe, the "Putting Doctor" is coming to the Golf Lab next week. We've got the appointment book open for three options with Glen:
Number One: Private half hour Science and Motion (SAM) test and evaluation. $100.
Glen is the Science and Motion Putt Lab expert with the most logged hours in the USA - if not the world. Glen is sure to find some interesting details in your SAM testing data. If you have some experience with SAM, this will be a fitting "next step".
If you have not had experience with SAM yet, there is still plenty of time with two Putting Clubs this week and one next week before the "Show" starts next Thursday. To get full benefit from a session with Glen, it would be a good idea to be conversant with the lingo. If you're starting from scratch with Glen, you're going to suffer from the "firehose" problem.
Number Two: Glen's "Money Back Guarantee Putting Experience". $95.
This two hour session is intended to be a humorous introduction to understanding putting with a particular emphasis on LEARNING HOW TO PRACTICE. You can also become a part of history. Since Glen has never refunded any money under his guarantee - you can be the very first - as long as you're willing to risk total satisfaction.
There's plenty of information about Glen on www.puttingdoctor.net. You can communicate with him in advance if you have questions before booking.
Number Three: Glen's "Getting in the Zone" Focus Band demonstration. $50 - when booked as a "second service".
This is one where you're going to have to suspend disbelief. The Focus Band is an electronic gizmo that you wear on your head. It receives and interprets your brainwaves. The theory is that when a player is in "full concentration" or "in the zone" his brain waves exhibit a certain pattern. Focus Band theory says you can train your brain to get in the zone. As much as you might want to laugh, keep in mind that all of the golf pros laughed when we told them we could predict how much a putt breaks.
If you want to be on the leading edge, you've got to keep an open mind. More on the Focus Band at www.focusband.com.
One of our key goals at the Golf Lab is providing "access to experts". That means making professional expertise affordable. Glen Coombe is a great example of a big day of professionally-assisted work on your putting for under $250.
And just in case you're still undecided, Glen is hosting Putting Club on Thursday, December 9th. At that meeting, Glen will describe his clinic and the Focus Band in detail. He will demonstrate the Focus Band for all of the disbelievers. You can see for yourself what he's talking about before strapping the electronics to your head. |
