No "regrets". After eight years, it's time to close the old Golf Lab. The real story isn't about closing, it's about opening. It's a happy story.
I've known for a long time that our old business model was doomed. Doctors and Lawyers no longer survive as sole practitioners. You have to know too much, do too much and overhead is too high. That's why David Balbi and I decided to partner up a year ago.
It made sense. Clubs go with the swing and vice versa. Our original goal was nothing more than sharing overhead and supporting each other's clients. That was a good start.
AimPoint fueled the fire. We saw the value. Players received immediate results measured in fewer putts per round and more confidence on the green. We saw that AimPoint was real science that could be the cornerstone for something bigger. That's how the Putting Lab idea was born.
The "to do list" was long. We learned AimPoint technology. We recruited the first AimPoint "True Believers". We proved the concept. We designed and built the ultimate AimPoint teaching and training surface - indoors. We equipped the Putting Lab with a brand new Science and Motion "launch monitor for putting".
Our goal was to design and build a facility where a player could learn about his current putting stroke and any unwanted compensations. We administer a test for putting skill and compare performance levels. We determine any problems caused by misalignment or incorrect aiming.
The Putting Lab is a great environment for practice - AimPoint concepts, aiming and speed control. Reminder: getting better at putting requires training.
The Putting Club is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7 PM - including tonight. Golf Lab customers are free to use any of the Putting Lab tools and gizmos. That includes the $8000 SAM machine. One astute mini-tour player has recognized the opportunity and has spent several hours in both analysis and training mode on the Putt Lab.
The Putting Lab and Putting Club are examples of our vision for the new Golf Lab.
