Golf Lab Closing Sale

This Saturday in Palo Alto

Private Notice for Customers Only

Greetings!

The day has finally come to dismantle the Old Golf Lab in Palo Alto.  The New Golf Lab in San Carlos is down to the final few details.  Our lease in Palo Alto is up at the end of the year.  We're selling all that's left down to the bare walls.  (And we mean bare walls.  If you need some slatwall, bring a screwdriver.)

"Rules of the Game"

We want to give everyone a fair shot at some things that are one of a kind and some bargains that will be hard to match.  There will be no early sales.  We're going to take "first come, first served" starting at 9:00 on Saturday.

Prices will be low at 9 AM.  At noon, all prices decrease by 50%.  At 3 PM, all prices decrease by 90%.  If you've been looking for a price incentive, this should be it.

What if you can't be here on Saturday?  No problem.  Come by on Friday.  Clint and Leith will be in Palo Alto all day Friday to answer questions.  We will offer free fitting advice - absolutely guaranteed to be worth the price.

If there is something in the sale that you would like to buy, you can leave a "bid" at the opening price.  Your name goes on the tag.  If the item is not sold by 9:30 on Saturday, you are the buyer.  This gives everyone a fair chance and rewards customers who come out for the sale.

You can also leave bids for the 50% off level and the 90% off level.

If you can't come by on Friday or Saturday but are still looking for something that we might have, call the second line at the Palo Alto Golf Lab on Friday.  We don't mind shipping if you're confident to buy over the phone.  (650) 493-1757.  We'll be there all day on Friday for calls and walk-ins.

Sale Highlights

This is not a "bunch of junk".  We already threw all of that away.  This is good stuff.  That, in itself, is a highlight.

We have accumulated a lot of very good sets of pullout iron shafts.  Some are rare and some exotic.  Some are brand new - usually Mizunos.  Highlights include a couple of sets of Fujikura Pro 95's, some Vista Pros, a few sets of Aerotechs, lots of Nippon 950's.  Our cost on these sets is $200 to $500.  Custom fitted and brand new, they're $75 to $85 per shaft.  We're going to start them at $200 the set.  Half off that at noon.  If you want them installed, it's only $10 per club.  Most of these sets include "blueprinted" slope charts.

If you were looking for that $700 set of shafts but were only willing to give $200 - Saturday is your day.

We have over 200 special purpose and "classic" driver heads in all lofts.  Keep in mind, there has been no significant improvement in driver head technology for the last few years so you're giving nothing away by choosing an "oldie but goodie".  Example:  All Nike Sumo driver heads = $25.  (Limit four per customer.)

We have a great selection of driver shafts.  Many of them are exotic, high-quality, expensive name brand "pullouts".  We shipped all the "proprietary" shafts to a liquidator.  No worries about "made for" pullouts that you don't want to play.  Ours are the "real deal".

We normally sell pullouts for half of their normal price.  On Saturday, you can buy any high performance driver shaft for 25% of the retail price.  Those $300 Oziks?  How about $75?  That includes installation.  Clint and Leith will both be available to give fitting advice.  There will be no physical fittings and no ability to test clubs during the liquidation sale.

How's this for an interesting combination?  A Nike "Tour" head matched up with a Speeder 757 shaft.  Five years ago, that combination cost the first guy who bought it $800.  On Saturday the very same setup is $100.  You can have some fun building new toys.

We're selling our fixtures and equipment that are not going with us to San Carlos.  That includes our original Achiever Launch monitor.  If you're thinking about indoor training, this model has exactly the same laser array and runs on the same software as the current model.  That's the one that sells for $6000.  Our opening price:  $1250 and it will go to 50% off at noon.

If you need nets ours are a good choice.  They come with the aluminum frame to hang the netting from the ceiling.  We have two complete setups, each one starting at $100.  Do you need somewhere to put your excess clubs?  Our racks and displays are going.  So is the checkout desk.  We're just keeping the bare essentials for the workshop.

Bags, bags, bags.  We're selling twenty or thirty golf bags - exact count and description to come later this week.  There's a large selection of "Tournament" bags - great for club storage if you only have two or three sets.  Also some carry bags.

Cool Deals

Let's put one "sure thing" on the table.

The Merit 60* wedge.  Ten or fifteen years ago, Larry Nelson - the Open Champion - put his name behind a new golf equipment company.  It had a catchy name = Merit.  Their first line was acclaimed.  Great things were predicted.

Alas, they folded in a couple of years.  At the end, they were working on a line of cast irons - including a very interesting game improvement model.

We've acquired the last of the Merit Golf Company inventory.  We have complete sets of irons and individual lob wedges.

Anyone who comes out to The Sale can pick up a Merit lob wedge head for $10.  We'll shaft it up for you on the spot.  Straight steel with a Tour Wrap, Tour Velvet or Crossline:  $25 complete and out the door.  You can also choose custom shafts.

If you're thinking about a backup set of irons, we'll have two Merit models available for just $99 for a complete set of heads.  Buy a set of pullouts that fits and you'll have a fabulous set of golf clubs for $299.  We'll throw in free assembly for the Merit sets.

Special for Kids

We think that the very best way for a kid to get started right with putting is to go with a blade style putter.  We've accumulated a few very nice examples of "old timers".  Included are a couple of Bulls Eyes and a couple of early TP Mills by Spaulding.  These are very nice styles - all blade variants.

We're giving them away to kids for free while they last.  Must be present and must get "fitted" for correct length.

This is a very classy way to go to the practice green.  Much better than a $5 "kids putter".

See you Saturday?

If you have questions, please give Dian Terova a call at (650) 654-1770 in the morning between 9 and 12.  She can set up a scheduled conversation to avoid the annoyance of trying to find a single time convenient to two parties at random.

Come on down to Palo Alto this weekend and say goodbye to the Old Golf Lab.

Stop by and have a look.

Best Regards,

Leith Anderson and David Balbi
