AimPoint Training Now Available Indoors

 Extended Training Program for Putting

September 13, 2010

Greetings!

After nine months of intense experience with the AimPoint green reading system, we're more certain than ever that Mark Sweeney's invention will go down in golf history as a major discovery.  We are confident because we have seen AimPoint reduce average putts per round for players who embrace the science.

You can expect immediate enlightenment with measurable improvement in a month.  We guarantee fewer putts per round.

If you are serious about bringing your scores down, learning AimPoint is the easiest way.  Start by simply eliminating avoidable mistakes reading greens.

AimPoint has finally been "discovered" by the mainstream media.  The October 2010 issue of Golf Digest - the "Why You Can't Putt" issue - includes a feature article by David Owen about AimPoint (more on that article later).

If you've been waiting to dive into AimPoint, now is a good time.

AimPoint Training Guaranteed to Work

We've been driving the AimPoint bandwagon for nine months.  In that time, we've introduced more golfers to AimPoint than anyone.

We learned how to communicate key AimPoint concepts.  We worked outdoors with our first clients learning from Mark Sweeney, the Inventor of AimPoint.  As we developed a deep understanding of the AimPoint system, we thought that it would be better to teach Level I indoors.

That's why we created the world's first AimPoint indoor putting surface designed by Mark Sweeney.  Our goal was to create the perfect environment for teaching AimPoint concepts.  The same AimPoint indoor putting surface is also available for ambitious AimPoint students completing a disciplined training program.

Although you can expect immediate results from a single session, AimPoint rewards players willing to put in the analysis and practice time required to reach a higher level of understanding and skill.

AimPoint green reading skills are not the exclusive answer to improved putting.  After reading a green correctly, a player still must start his putt on the correct line at the right speed.  No player ever does that perfectly without training.  The key question is whether a defective stroke is causing inconsistent results or the problem is caused by poor aiming with an unfriendly putter.  These questions can be answered.

Understanding of your stroke and honing your skill requires a few hours of analysis and training - no way around it.

That's why we incorporated supervised training into our extended training program.  AimPoint training at the Golf Lab is effective and efficient.  Maybe even a little fun.

Improved Putting Starts with Precise Aiming

The "AimPoint - Level I" session includes testing your aim with your putter.  Very few players aim inside the hole.  Practice alone will not improve your aiming.

It might be a surprise to learn that "all putters do not aim the same".  Aiming is a matter of visual perception.  It's quite possible that simply changing the shape and configuration of your putter will correct your aim.

If you always aim outside the hole - right or left - you need to understand your "aiming bias".  Then, you need to find out if the cause of your poor aim is your putter.  Custom fitting a putter for aim is a good investment.

The length, lie, loft, head shape, hosel shape, hosel offset and alignment markings all influence a player's aim.

There is no evidence that fancy shapes and unusual graphics help aim.  Our experience is to the contrary. Complicated shapes require more brain power to aim because there is more information for your brain to process.

Our Edel putter fitting system allows 1.3 billion different combinations of factors that influence aim.  The Edel system can create almost any putter configuration that you can imagine.

We recommend a detailed putter fitting in conjunction with your AimPoint training program.

Bad Aiming Causes "Compensation"

If you aim outside the hole, your "perfect" stroke will never hole a putt.  Luckily, one of the magical things about golf is that your subconscious brain is willing to take over the controls and "adjust" your putting stroke without your conscious knowledge or control.  You are missing your putts into the hole - when they go in.

Precise compensation moves are dangerous.  Players suffering from subconscious compensation are more likely to develop the "yips".

You have plenty of company in the "compensation club".  The great Ben Hogan aimed right.  His stroke compensated by pulling his putts left.  That's why he always aimed his irons below the hole with a left to right break.  His putting stroke made that putt easier.  It took many years to perfect that defect.

But Ben Hogan had a lot more time to practice his putting.  If you're starting from scratch and don't plan on practicing three hours a day, there really is a "best stroke".  It's one that aims inside the hole and delivers the putter face square at impact - and for an inch or so beyond.  We can measure that.

It does no good to practice AimPoint - or any other putting technique for that matter - if you can't aim your putter precisely and stroke your putt on line at the correct speed.

That's why you should try a few hours of analysis and training.  We think you should correct any subconscious compensation in your stroke.  Once you understand the importance of speed, you will want to practice distance control.

You can't get all that done in just a couple of hours.

Indoors is Better

Although small groups had tested our AimPoint green, we put our AimPoint Level I curriculum to the ultimate test last week.  One of the top instructors in Northern California brought twenty of his students to the Lab for our AimPoint Level I class.  Ten golfers in each session were easily accommodated in comfortable surroundings.  Indoor acoustics are great - unlike outdoors.  Players left with a clear understanding of AimPoint concepts and a sense of dedication to continue to analyze and practice their putting.

At day's end, the instructor said he would never try to cover such material outdoors - and he works on some very nice outdoor greens.  He proclaimed the indoor experience a complete success.  His next sessions are already booked.

That's proof positive.  Rather than book a fall and winter schedule outdoors, we're presenting a much more comfortable, convenient and effective indoor program.  No suffering required.

We've broken the code on learning AimPoint in a comfortable and efficient way.

The Training Course:  Understanding and Using AimPoint

AimPoint will give you an immediate sense of enlightenment.  But AimPoint is not the kind of subject you can master with just a couple of hours of instruction.  AimPoint is designed to be revealed in "levels".  Like any other discipline, you get back in proportion to the effort you put in.

We can help you decide the level of effort that makes sense for learning AimPoint and set expectations accordingly.  Remember: true mastery of any subject takes time.

Step One:  AimPoint:  Level I - Introduction to AimPoint

"AimPoint - Level I" is the first step in understanding the AimPoint green reading system.  The presentation begins with thirty minutes in a classroom environment.  It is much easier to cover the basics in a comfortable learning environment.

Once the concepts and vocabulary have been covered - and all preliminary questions answered - the group moves to the indoor putting surface where AimPoint skills are practiced and principles are demonstrated.  Players are introduced to the key concepts that they will take to the golf course.  The AimPoint chart is explained.

After completing Level I a player should feel comfortable finding the "High and Low Anchors", "the Zero Line" and the "Straight Putt".  Once you know the lay of the land you will never again miss the direction of a break.

Mission accomplished in two and a half hours.

Step Two:  Supervised Practice

"Practice makes perfect." - English Proverb.

The deeper value of AimPoint is contained in the charts that predict the amount of break from any distance inside twenty feet.  That benefit raises the bar for performance.  It becomes imperative to start your putt on line and control your speed to "one foot by" pace.

The AimPoint indoor putting surface will be open each week for supervised practice sessions.  AimPoint clients are free to stop by for practice any M-W-F between six and seven PM to work on their putting stroke and their training regimen.  Players have access to the Science and Motion Putt Lab - the most advanced electronic device for analyzing a putting stroke.

The AimPoint Training Program comes with three supervised practice sessions.

After completing the "Level I" and at least three hours of training, a player is ready to take his AimPoint knowledge and honed physical skills to the course for some advanced training.

AimPoint Level II - On Course Experience

The culmination of the AimPoint Training Course is on the golf course.  Once a player understands the AimPoint green reading system - and has knowledge and control of his stroke - he can be successful putting on a natural green.

Look for a description of AimPoint Level II soon.

Golf Digest Article - Comment

Golf Digest chose David Owen to travel to Orlando to research AimPoint.  He took his training directly from Mark Sweeney and one of the most respected PGA Tour instructors in the world - Brian Mogg.

Owen is a professional golf writer sent to Orlando just for the purpose of reporting on AimPoint.  You can bet that the trio worked hard for more than a couple of hours.

Owen's conclusion, after favorably describing the science behind AimPoint and declaring that he immediately felt more comfortable on the green:  "I'm not sure I'll ever take the time to master Sweeney's system.  In fact, I'm sure I won't."

That's our point.  He got good payback.  He feels comfortable on the green and knows which way every putt is going to break.  That's all he should expect from day one.

Reaching the "next level" requires bringing your stroke and your putter into the analysis.  And for the player who wants to improve, it requires a disciplined personal training program.

Maybe Golf Digest will send Owen to California for the Golf Lab AimPoint training program and see what he thinks then?

We guarantee his improvement too.

The Business Deal

We have created a system to learn AimPoint that works.

The cost is $295 for the "AimPoint Level I" session and three supervised training sessions.

The on-course AimPoint Level II experience is $295.

Book your AimPoint Training Program in the next week you can also reserve a complete putter fitting with David Balbi.  We think the best putter strategy is to own one putter that you know you can aim.  After that, work on your technique and your consistency.  Edel provides the only "Fit by Aim" fitting system.  That makes Edel a good choice.  The cost for the complete Edel Putter fitting is $125.

If you take the Edel putter fitting and buy a putter before the end of September (there's a reason for this deadline) David will waive the fitting fee.  If you've been thinking that Edel putters are just too rich for your bank account, this is a good chance to pick up a genuine Edel for the price of a Scotty.

New Contact Information

The Golf Lab has now moved the business office from Palo Alto to San Carlos.  The new phone number is (650) 654-1770.  We will keep the workshop in Palo Alto until we finish tuning up our electronic fitting systems.  That will certainly take a month.  Our lease at the Edgewood Center expires at the end of the year.

We plan to start club fittings in San Carlos next week.

If you have any questions call Dian Terova at the Golf Lab between 8:30 and 12:30.  She will be in the office every day between those hours for immediate attention.  There is always a chance the David or Leith will be out of touch for hours at a time - golf course etiquette and all that.

So that's all about AimPoint in September 2010.  If you want to change the way you look at a green and improve your putting in 30 days - reserve your spot today.

Regards,

Leith Anderson and David Balbi
