March 18, 2010

Greetings!

Just Six Spots Left - We're Holding Yours

We went out on a limb to put together an ambitious program - bringing the Aim Point Expert Green Reading System to the Bay Area - the first stop since the PGA Tour.

The response to our announcement was fast.  We booked half the spots within four hours on Monday.

We still have a few spots left - six as of this morning.  If you can make arrangements and join us next Monday or Tuesday - call the Golf Lab and we'll reserve your spot.  If you can't get it together that quickly but would like to be first in line for the next series, give a call and we'll put you on the list.

This will not be the last presentation of the Aim Point Green Reading System.  We would like to bring Aim Point to a course near you.  We need a very nice putting green that has the right contours.  Bonus points if the professional staff is friendly and wants to earn a little money by helping.

Here's the "new information" we promised with a special offer to give you motivation to come out for the Aim Point seminar.  As you can see, we've taken an intense focus on putting for this season.  There is no better way to cut strokes from your score and take money out of your opponent's pocket than to save a couple of strokes on the green.

"Sweetening the Pie"

This is a very brief preview of what David and I think could be a huge breakthrough in understanding putters and putting.

If that sounds like a "tall claim" - it is.

Readers know that the fundamental starting point of good putting is aiming your putter.  A player who aims right or left of the hole must compensate with a stroke "correction" either changing the path or the face angle at contact.

The problem with relying on eyesight is that it's very hard to see a "correction" in a putting stroke.  If a putting teacher has a hard time seeing a defect, how about the golfer himself?  How can you "know" your putting stroke?

The essence of proof is physical evidence.  "Seeing is believing."  There is no better way to understand your weight shift than to watch your center of gravity move while you swing.  That is why David Balbi pioneered the use of "force plate" technology - so a player can "see" his center of gravity move.

To stay on the leading edge of technology, we have acquired the most accurate diagnostic tool available for putting.  It is the Science and Motion Putt Lab.  With a retail price of $8000, it is toward the high end of "golf gizmos".

The Putt Lab requires a transmitter affixed to the putter.  Our complaint has been that attaching a transmitter to the putter makes accurate aiming impossible.  However, the Putt Lab is a great diagnostic tool and a very effective training aid.  Tiger Woods is an owner.

We
've figured out a way to make the Putt Lab work with the Edel aiming system to reveal a golfer's putting stroke and, much more important, to understand what causes the "pattern".  We know this from full swing:  you must treat the CAUSE, not the SYMPTOMS.  Here's the fitting plan:

A player starts by recording ten strokes and capturing the results.

The Putt Lab is precise in recording swing path and face angle at impact.  You will know the exact "pattern" of your stroke - in three dimensions.

Here's the breakthrough:

If we find a player aiming right in the Edel aiming test, we should assume that his "correction" is either an outside-in swing path or a closed face angle at impact.

Now, for the first time, with the help of the Putt Lab, we can verify the theory with proof.

Our theory is that when a player sees where he aims, and sees the "pattern" of his stroke matches the theory, he will be motivated to make a change.  Players who want to monitor the "pattern" of their putting stroke can return to the Balbi Studio for periodic checkups.

You can "know" your stroke and eliminate any problems that cause you to "correct" your stroke.  The most obvious problem is "bad aim" but a comprehensive analysis will deal with pre-putt routine, setup, stance, ball position, body position, etc., etc., etc,.

Since acquiring the Putt Lab, we've been thinking about how to take our putter fittings to the "next level".  As far as we know, there's no one else in the world who is using these tools this way.

Here's your payoff:

For all attendees at the Aim Point Expert Green Reading seminars, we offer an incentive to be among the first clients to help us perfect the methodology.  Every Seminar attendee will receive a $50 credit on the "Complete Putter Fitting.

So if that puts you "over the top" - give the Golf Lab a call this morning and snap up one of the last spots.  (The only thing you have to lose is your horrible putting record.)

Now, in case you've forgotten the original pitch, here it is:

AimPoint Technologies

glover

It's the Blue Line on the Golf Channel.

If you have watched tournaments on the Golf Channel in the last several months you will be intrigued by the story behind the "Blue Line".
It's never wrong.  If the ball rolls off the blue line it's a miss.

Aim Point was invented by Mark Sweeney.  He's licensed his technology to the Golf Channel for use in their tournament broadcasts.  He's validated his methods with proven PGA Tour results.  Aim Point is a new way to read greens that is much more reliable than trusting your eyes.  It is based on mathematics and science - foreign subjects for most golfers - but with insight, logic and the only thing that really counts - results.

Once you learn the Aim Point System you will never again miss the direction of a break.

But truly amazing, you will receive your own pocket charts that tell not only the direction of the break but also the amount of break in inches from any position around the hole.  Imagine "knowing" the exact break of every putt.

How Can That Be Legal?

Just think of your Aim Point charts like a very detailed yardage book - for greens.  It's the same kind of information.  Perfectly legal by USGA standards.

On a Good Day, You Aim Bad

Most players are just plain lucky to get the ball in the hole.  Only one in ten players in our testing aims his putter inside the hole from eight feet.
If you consistently aim right or left of the hole, you will compensate by changing the path of your stroke or the face angle of your putter.
Players who aim left, must compensate with an inside-out stroke or an open face.

And that only deals with aiming and starting your putt on line.  How about choosing the right line?

Most pretty good players "visualize" the path that the ball will take to the hole and then try to roll their putt down that path.  That's a miss.  If you want your ball to follow a path that you visualize, you have to aim your putt to a point on the high side of that path.  Your ball will begin breaking the moment it leaves your putter.  If you start it "on line" you will miss low.  Most amateurs miss low.

Aim Point gives you exactly that, an "Aiming Point".  You don't try to putt down a line.  Go ahead and imagine the path - just putt to your "Aiming Pont".  Much more reliable.

 "Bleeding Edge"

It's only because you're a subscriber to this newsletter that you're even hearing about Aim Point.  It so happens that only PGA Professionals who are also Edel Putter fitting experts can be certified to deliver the Aim Point instruction.

Two of the thirteen Edel putter fitting systems in the world are in Northern California - one at Mike Schy's Golf Academy in Fresno and the other at David Balbi's Teaching Studio in San Carlos.

The only "certified" Aim Point instructor in Northern California, except for Mark Sweeney himself is Mike Schy.  David and Leith are "in the program".

The presentations of the Aim Point system that Mike Schy had been delivering in the central valley are literally the first off of the PGA Tour.

We know it is short notice, but Mike had a window in his schedule that allowed us to get him to deliver the Aim Point sessions at Tilden Park and Poppy Ridge.

Who Should Attend?

Aim Point is for all golfers.  Whether you're a professional golfer, tournament playing amateur, serious recreational player, junior or caddy - you will discover for the first time a revolutionary but highly reliable new method for reading putts.  If you never again want to guess at how much break to play on any putt within 20 feet of the hole - you should find a way to meet up with us in Berkeley or Livermore.

Have you ever taken a lesson in green reading?

What You will Learn

- The 3 primary green shapes and how they affect the break of the putt.
- Exactly how much break to play for any putt within 20 feet of the hole.
- How break changes as green speed changes.
- How to estimate break very accurately using fall lines and drainage areas.
- How to find the Zero Lines.
- Eye and putter face alignment.
- Understanding green architecture and its implications on putting.
- Aiming and alignment.
- Optical illusions and slope perception.
- Common green-reading misconceptions and mistakes.

Registration

The fee for the Aim Point session is $195.  NCGA members receive a $20 discount.  We will ask for a credit card number to confirm a registration.  The card will be billed three days before the session.  Cancellations will be honored with 24 hours notice.  No-shows will be billed.

Get in Touch

Give this opportunity serious consideration.  There may be nothing that you can do for your golf game that will produce as much improvement as aiming your putter correctly and reading the greens right.

If you would like to explore the possibility of presenting an Aim Point session at your club please give us a call.  We need a minimum of six golfers to present a private session.

The Aim Point presentation does not conflict with your club's teaching staff.  Aim Point can only be presented by certified teachers and club fitters who are also certified by Edel Golf.  (Now you know, if you can't aim your putter, why bother worrying about reading greens?)
