Improve Your Putting - This Weekend

Greetings!

Our mission at the Golf Lab is to keep our customers informed about any new ideas that could help them improve their performance by making their clubs work better. We've got great opportunity for you this weekend.

John Johnson has been on the forefront of the "optimization" movement in golf clubs for several years. As Golf Lab customers know, changing the balance of golf clubs can have a dramatic effect on consistency. Now, John has turned his attention to putters.

Over the years, there has been a lot of attention paid to the overall weight of a putter. The Heavy Putter made a run - proving the theory that for some players more static weight quieted their hands and brought the "big muscles" into play - smoothing out their putting stroke. The problem with the Heavy Putter is that it only comes in one weight - heavy. One size and one weight never fit all.

John has designed a new, and heavy, graphite putter shaft. It is made to accept a weight inside the shaft. That weight can be precisely located. As you might guess, John has developed a set of weights that can be positioned inside the putter shaft.

John is a PGA professional. He has worked with thousands of golfers - learning how changing the weight and balance of golf clubs improves their swing motion. He's developed a great eye and feel for the putting stroke. His new weight system can help a player "release" the putter correctly.

The Pleasanton Golf Show - This Weekend

John Johnson will be in the Golf Lab booth this Saturday and Sunday at the Pleasanton Golf Show. He will be available to work with you to see if his new ideas help your stroke. He is bringing a selection of putters that he has modified so you can test and adjust different models. He has two of the new, beautiful Miura putters set up with his system. If you want to make good use of your time, we will take appointments for Saturday and Sunday morning so you don't have to wait on line for attention. Call the Golf Lab on Friday to arrange a weekend time. Clint will be by himself in the shop so if the phone doesn't pick up, call again.

John has another product that we've been waiting for someone to bring out for a long time. He has a machined aluminum part that can be installed in your center shafted putter to allow us to change the lie. Center shafted putters are very popular but a little stupid. They are all manufactured with a 72* lie angle - the "standard". That's great if 72* fits you - but that would put you in the minority of all golfers. We can now change the lie angle of a center shafted putter to fit your setup and stroke.

There is more to do at the Pleasanton Golf Show than just work on your putting technique and equipment. We will have two hitting nets and two Achiever Launch monitors to perform driver and irons optimization testing. Each test will take fifteen minutes and determine whether counter weighting will improve the performance of your current clubs. If you want to find out, bring your driver and six iron to the show and we can install the counterweights and do the test on the spot. Complete testing will require follow-up at the Golf Lab but we will do that for no additional charge. If you want to reserve a specific time, we'll take Saturday and Sunday reservations for that on Friday as well.

Driver optimization almost always improves distance and consistency. The good news is that it's not a mystery. The Achiever tells you exactly how much ball speed increases as well as recording improvements in swing path, face angle at impact and launch angle. The Balance-Certified "Stabilizer" is a great, bleeding edge product that has helped hundreds of Golf Lab customers keep their drives in the short grass.

So if you're out and about this weekend, stop by the Pleasanton Golf Show for a little work on your game - and a little fun. It's easy to get to - just get on 680 in Pleasanton and exit at Bernal Road. Follow the signs to the building in the fair grounds. A ticket is only ten bucks and you'll get that back in freebies - including a free round of golf. We'll see you at the show.

Next Weekend - the Golf Lab Sidewalk Sale

Mark your calendar for next Saturday - October 18 - starting at 9 o'clock with no pre-sales. We're going to have a sidewalk sale in honor of the end of the financial world. If you're looking for a bargain, here are a few for you to consider. And we've got a great extra surprise.

Here's a sample of some of the "deals":

Brand New Titleist Pro V's - $29 per dozen (limit one dozen per customer). We have to put the limit on it because $29 is under wholesale cost and we don't want Golfsmith buying them all up.

John's "collection" - John Ruark is the ultimate ball hawk - picking up premium balls and repackaging them in brand new boxes. All brands - lightly used at bargain basement prices. Pro V's only $22 per dozen with no limit.

Nike drivers, fairway woods and irons. The SUMO 5900 started the year with a VS Proto Shaft at $579. We've got a few left and we're blowing them out at $299. We've also got a few of the round SUMO 5000's at $199. We won't let you buy a mistake - if necessary we'll do a "quick fit" to make sure you get one that works. Also available: utilities, fairway woods and Ignite irons at prices lower than everywhere but eBay (really better because there's no shipping charge.)

Don't worry that you'll get here and find out that we don't have the right flex or loft. If we don't, we'll order one and honor the sale price.

Macgregor Drivers - just a couple in stock that we'll fit with the shaft of your choice - SST PUREd for $199.

Bargain Drivers: there's a bag full for $99 - each one labeled with the exact flex so you know what you're getting. Some of the shafts are worth more than that.

KZG Fairway metals. We've got a selection set up with a variety of shafts for $49. All tested and labeled for flex.

Bargain fairway metals. There's a bag full for $39 - including some name brands like Titleist.

Putters, wedges - all priced individually. Look for bargains in classic styles and lightly used demos from Scratch, Miura and Fourteen.

Everyone who comes to the Sidewalk Sale will receive a coupon for a free Shaft Test 2008 or free counterweight fitting. If you missed the chance earlier, this is one more way to get it done.

That should be enough to get you motivated, but one more thing.

All This Comes with a Free Lunch

For years, I've been a barbeque addict. I've worn out three Webers - but I've always wanted to be a "smoker". Any barbeque addict knows that smoking is a non-trivial activity - requiring constant attention for many hours.

Not so any longer. One of our customers "Barbeque Joe" Marasco had a great career in the high tech business, retired and became a total barbeque nut. He sells automatic smokers. It's the ultimate "set it and forget it" smoking system. I bought one and it's great - ribs, pork shoulder and salmon are easy. And, you don't burn your ribs up on the grill.

Joe will be at the Sidewalk sale, smoking up and serving his famous pulled pork sandwiches. If you ever dreamed about upgrading your barbeque skills to smoking - you can get the "demo" at the Golf Lab sidewalk sale.

Now you've got something interesting to do next weekend as well.

See you there.
