Greetings!

Do you want to find the "magic shaft" that truly fits your swing? Read on.

For the last four weeks, we've been running a unique trial program at the Golf Lab - "Shaft Test 2008" - to see if we could take driver shaft fitting to a new level. We've been working with Golf Lab customers who have participated in the program as "volunteers". Along the way, our customers have learned a lot about their swings and the kind of shafts that deliver the best feel and performance - and most importantly - why.

Fifteen customers have already discovered shafts that have added distance and accuracy. Out of thirty that signed up for the extended testing program, we think that all of them will change their driver shafts. In the very near future we're going to offer the "extended demo program" as a service - a unique shaft fitting method that's guaranteed to improve the performance of your driver. It will not be free. The basic program will cost $150 for a month of testing. But before we end the free trial period, we're going to give all of our customers one more chance to participate in "Shaft Test 2008" at no charge. It is imperative that you call and reserve your hour of dedicated testing and analysis right away.

 Details of "Shaft Test 2008"

We reserve an hour for the testing and analysis. Three electronic gizmos are used: the Achiever launch monitor, the Max Out Golf Labs Shaft Max and Launch Max. Complete descriptions of our fitting process are archived on www.calgolftech.co m.

Keep in mind, there are well north of 1000 shaft models for drivers on the market today. The idea that you're going to find the "magic shaft" by trial and error is wishful thinking. The role of electronic testing is to determine the "family" of shafts that that comes the closest to matching your swing.

That's what we do by testing with electronics and a healthy dose of experience. We nail down the shaft length, weight range, butt flex frequency and overall bend profile of the shaft - focusing on the tip action. When we know that, you've got a shaft that you can play with. That narrows the field down to fifteen or twenty shafts out of our inventory which includes all of the common models and most of the exotic models available - in all flexes.

If you really want to tell the difference in shaft feel and performance, that's a job that can only be done by you, at the range and on the golf course. And, it can't be done by comparing two different shafts on two different drivers. When you change two variables, you can never know which one will influence the outcome.

That's why we've focused on the Nickent Evolver driver system. Unlike Callaway and Taylor Made, Nickent allows us to purchase the shaft fittings. Our shaft choices are not limited to a narrow selection. We can even install a favorite shaft from your own collection for testing. The convenience of the Nickent Evolver system is unmatched. You can switch from shaft to shaft during a single testing session. There's no better way to understand the performance and feel difference when you're comparing driver shafts.

 Shaft Testing Sequence

After we find the right "family" of shafts that all promise to fit your swing, we supply you with a Nickent Evolver driver head in the correct loft and three shafts. You have that setup for testing for up to a week. After the week, you keep the shaft that you liked the best and return to the Golf Lab for an evaluation of your experience. We then give you two new shafts to test against your favorite. You can swap shafts as frequently as you want for a period of up to 30 days. By then, you will have had the equivalent of a lifetime of experience of testing driver shafts.

Although we start with a "best" loft Evolver driver head, you are not limited to a single loft. You can test the exact combination of loft and shaft type to get the trajectory and shot shape that you want. It may be that you need more loft with a lower spin, stiffer tip shaft to produce perfect ball flight. If you're a true equipment geek, the "Shaft Test 2008" will save you days of wasted testing time.

 Unexpected Outcomes

One of the true virtues of this kind of extensive testing is that you have a chance to try shafts that you would never know about. For example, a new shaft company, Oban, has released a very short line of shafts. Oban caught our eye because the executives behind the company have over twenty years experience in the shaft business - working for the majors. When we put the Oban shafts through our SST PURE process, they tested way above average for consistency.

We put one of the shafts in the testing program with Doug Chaikin - a Golf Lab "Gang Member". He called in after a couple of days, letting us know that the Oban shaft was delivering 25 yards of additional distance with the Evolver driver. Our reaction? It's just too good to be true. You can find out for yourself by testing the Oban shafts.

After a month of handing out driver shafts and talking to customers about their experience, we're getting a great deal of insight about which shafts feel and perform the best - for which customers for which swing types. This has been the most productive period in understanding driver shaft feel and performance in our entire seven years of history.

 Answer Your Own Questions

Most of our customers have come into the "Shaft Test 2008" with their own questions. What length? What flex? What about kick point? Is a $300 shaft worth the money?

Many have wanted to try specific shafts. We have the complete Fujikura Speeder series, the Fuji Rombax series, the Mitsubishi "Red, White and Blue Boards", all of the Graphite Designs, the Aerotechs, the ACCRAs and the UST's.

We also have the boutique lines like OBAN and Enzo. If you ever wanted to test a specific driver shaft under controlled conditions, this is your chance. Many customers have found that inexpensive shafts perform just as well as exotic shafts.
