From Leith Anderson at the Golf Lab - Free Stuff This is the best season for golf in California. The weather is great while the rest of the US is sweltering and sweating. The tournament season is in full swing. Even practice is a lot of fun. I've been at the Palo Alto Muni every Monday through Thursday at 7 AM for on course practice. If you would like to join me, just phone the Golf Lab the day before so I know you're coming. (650) 493-1770. We play the back nine. You can have breakfast and make it to work by 10. |

Incentives to motivate you to pay us a visit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2005 is "The Year of the Golf Tee". At the PGA
show, there were no less than a dozen companies
showing every kind of tee you could imagine. There
were brushes, hinges and space age shapes galore.
One caught our eye. It's the Epoch by Evolve
Golf.
The company claims the shape lets the ball get into
the air faster and straighter. Tiger and the boys are
using their tees on the PGA Tour. There are benefits
that matter to amateurs. First, they're tall. Second,
they're durable. I've played two full rounds with a
single tee. You don't have to buy your tall tees by
the hundred. Third, they're biodegradable so you
don't leave a mess around the course. And the final
benefit? They're free. If you stop by the shop we'll
give you a pack to try out. Keep reading for

The New Max Out launch monitor is great. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were the first custom shop in the Bay Area to
invest in a launch monitor. Our Achiever has
been
great for three years. But, there are things that the
Achiever won't do - like measure spin. We've got a
new launch monitor that utilizes high speed
photography to take two pictures of a ball as it
comes off the tee. We mark the ball with a red line
so the software can measure spin. We have found
the Max Out launch monitor to be very
effective for
players who are trying to fine tune their clubs and
choose the best ball. As a bonus for reading our
email, we will test your current driver for free and tell
you how well it is performing for you. The system will
also supply you with an "optimized" trajectory and
spin rate for your ball speed. Please call ahead for an
appointment.

Tiger's Golf Ball. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nike is making a play to be the most up and coming
company in the golf industry. Like all equipment
companies, they covet the ball business. After a
couple of false starts, they finally have a ball that we
think is really good. It's the Nike Platinum.
If you
come by the shop, we'll give you a free two ball
sample pack. While you're at the shop, you might
want to try out the Nike Slingshot irons.
This is a
truly underrated iron. Nike made a mistake using
Charles Barkley in their advertising. That advertising
makes it look like Slingshots are for hacks. From the
business end, they have a "player's blade" shape with
very little offset. Bob and I are both playing them.
That's saying something for two dedicated golf snobs.

MacGregor is betting the farm on their 2005
line. It's
hard to miss Greg Norman touting MacGregor
products on TV. The MacTec driver is very
good for
players with swing speeds in the 85 to 95 MPH
range. We will test one for you on our Max Out
launch monitor and compare it to your current driver
for free. You no longer have to waste time taking an
armload of clubs to the range to try to figure out
which one performs the best. For players who buy a
MacTec driver, we will sell you a matching
MacTec
fairway metal for $75 That saves you a couple
of
hundred dollars on the pair.
MacGregor irons are also great performers. We like the game improvement 565's. I featured them in my last Golf Today Magazine article. Buy any set of MacGregor irons and receive your choice of MacGregor wedges free. Nakashima has shipped their 460 cc driver. It's a great shape, with the usual flawless Nakashima finishing. We'll fit you for a Nakashima driver absolutely free. For all buyers, Nakashima will customize a stretch fit golf hat with any name or slogan that you like. The hats are very nice. Stop by the shop and try one on.
