2012 Leagues

We are off to an exciting start to our 2012 EWGA Boston Chapter league season!  Commencing at midnight on March 25, 2012 through April 25, 2012 the sign-up process has been a race against the cut off deadline. With the deadline reached last week we continue to tweak the league rosters as members request to become full league players instead of an alternate status.

This season we have 17 leagues on 12 different golf courses! After many seasons of asking for an afternoon league at Pine Meadows in Lexington, we secured a 5:00pm league on Tuesdays.  We are happy to announce that league is full.  As we write this article, EWGA Boston has 4 full leagues with many others almost full.  If you know someone who is interested in switching from Alternate status to League Player status, please let us know at leagues@ewgaboston.org.  Or, if you know or meet someone who is interested in joining the EWGA  and playing on one of our leagues, please have them email membership@ewgaboston.org for contact information.

We have our wonderful Alternates, who are our life
line in keeping the leagues in full complement when league players are unable to attend, are able to play for their primary course selection and two other courses this year.  By keeping the league play full, we are demonstrating to the golf course management our commitment to our league contract.  We are offering a second or third course selection as a pilot program.  We want to see if Alternates will play at more than one location utilizing their other course selections.  The Leagues committee will follow-up with the League Coordinators during the season on this pilot program.

Thank you to all our League Coordinators and Co-coordinators who volunteer to organize our leagues and keep play fun, exciting and moving along. If there any questions about the course, rain-outs, etc, please contact your League Coordinators, they are there to help all league members and alternates have a great season!

Please remember to check the our website www.ewgaboston.org for the various contests for league players such  as the Biggest Loser, Match: Play:Ladder Tournament and the Birdie Club.

Boston Chapter Championship

The Chapter Championship is coming in July!  Registration opens soon!

On July 14, 2012, we are having our Chapter Championship at Olde Scotland Links in Bridgewater, MA.
This event is usually a sell out, so start thinking about playing in this fun event.  The Championship, by design, offers two different competitive formats and you choose the one that fits your game, personality and skill level. Establishing a handicap is easy. Included in your EWGA membership is access to EWGA's Handicap System. Just post the equivalent of five 18-hole scores (or ten 9-hole scores) to establish your handicap.

Individual Stroke Play Competition

Players are grouped into one of five flights based on their official USGA Handicap Index. Low Gross and Low Net winners in each flight advance to the semi-finals in August.Any member  with a handicap from 0 to 40.4 is eligible play.

Intra-Chapter Team Scramble Competition

The scramble team consists of four-woman teams that meet combined handicap requirements. If playing as part of a foursome is more enjoyable than solo competition, this may be the  format for you.

The EWGA Championship is the largest women's ama
teur tournament of its kind, with more than 2,400 members nationwide participating in the event. In the recent past, our chapter has been represented at nationals by several scramble teams and individual stroke competitors. The three stages of competition are:

  • Chapter Championship, July 14, 2012 at Olde Scotland Links, Bridgewater, MA
  • Northeast Semi-Finals, August 25, 2012 at Sterling National Country Club, Sterling, MA
