New Member Outing
May 22 was a beautiful New England Spring day, and a perfect day for the New Member event at Tewksbury Country Club.
For the third year in a row, members new to the Boston Chapter had the opportunity to meet members of the Board over golf and lunch. This year, 21 people participated.
The morning started with nine holes of golf on the nicely manicured course. Of course the day would not be complete without a little friendly competition. Team four: Ina Armstrong, Amber Conley, Johanna Berry, and Allyson Holbrook won honors - and golf journals, to help keep track of their golfing adventures.

Could you be the "Biggest Loser"?
In the Boston Chapter's handicap challenge, being the biggest loser is a good thing! One of the reasons to establish a handicap is that it's a good way to track your improvement. Join in the fun and see how your handicap improves. Just send an email - no later than June 13 - to our Handicap Chair with:
- Your name
- Handicap system used (GN21 or GHIN)
- GHIN number, if using GHIN
Complete details are found here.

American Express Women's Golf Month uses the month of June to celebrate golf as a year-long sport and recreation for women. It is designed to make learning and playing golf fun in a women-friendly environment. Host facilities across the country offer special women's events throughout the month. To find a host facility near you, visit Play Golf America.
EWGA is joining in the celebration by offering the following:
- $25 savings for all new members joining in June. The initiation fee is being waived for new members joining from June 1-30. Applications can be submitted by mail or online (promotion code: EWGA-WG10).
- Every member who recruits a new member from June 1-30 will have her name entered into a drawing for a chance to win a variety of prizes from Nike Golf, the sponsor for the annual Member-Get-A-Member campaign.
But wait! There's more! EWGA Boston is offering Getting to the Green in Fewer Shots.
Have you worked on your full swing at the range and your short game around the green, but still feel you are not getting the most from your game? Maybe some course management strategy is needed. Join us at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course (Putterham) in Brookline on June 18 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM for a session to help you better understand the basics of course management. Enrollment information is found here. Hurry, the registration deadline is June 11.

Join us for
June Jollity
Yippee!! The 2010 golf season is in full SWING (pun intended)! June is an action-packed month, offering some opportunities to play and network with our neighboring EWGA chapters.
We start out the month on the Cape at Ocean Edge and Ballymeade on the 5th & 6th, respectively. Then we'll play "9 & Stay to Dine" at Granite Links on the 11th, head to Brookmeadow in Canton on the 12th, and join up with our northern neighbors in Atkinson, NH on the 13th.
The following weekend, the Boston Chapter engages in friendly match play competition with other area chapters at the inaugural New England Cup. Two teams will represent Boston at Juniper Hill on the 19th. Good luck and bring home the cup, ladies!
To cap off the month, we're at Blackstone on the 26th and Cyprian Keyes on the 27th. So, what are you waiting for?! Don't miss out on the fun and festivities! Visit our Events web page to register today!

2010 Chapter Championship
Registration Reminder
Registration is now open; the registration packet is found here. Deadline to register is June 30.
Warm-up Recap The warm-up event at Shaker Hills was a success. A great day and a great course. The Championship scramble team of Robin Duffy, Arlene Franklin, Susie Guszka, and Amy Soisson swept the awards for the "Disaster" contest, taking all three of the awards for lowest scores.
Venue
Highfields Golf & Country Club in Grafton, MA is hosting the 2010 Chapter Championship. The course is in great shape and the staff is anxious to welcome our members!
One of the most frequently asked questions we hear is, 'where in the world is Grafton?' To give you a ballpark idea, it's about an hour from Boston, Lawrence, and Taunton. (A little closer to Boston than Red Tail...)
Volunteers
Specifically, we need:
- Spotters: two for two holes
- Photographer to take shots of foursomes prior to play, candid shots during play, and shots of the winners after play
- Help collecting score cards after play

Handy Handicap Info
Want a GHIN?
Included in your EWGA membership are handicap services through GN21, powered by GolfNet. An alternative handicap system is GHIN. If you were to maintain a handicap through both systems, you would find that they differed only by a few fractions of a point.
The EWGA Boston Chapter is now offering GHIN handicaps to its members for an annual fee of $30. If you would like to obtain a GHIN handicap, please send an email to golfhandicap@ewgaboston.org. Be sure to include your address to receive the publication, Mass Golfer.
Please mail your check for $30, payable to EWGA to: Margaret Crosby, c/o EWGA, PO Box 8086, Salem MA 01971.
What's that code? Have you noticed a letter next to your trend in GN21? Like so?
Not sure what it means? Well, we have unlocked the mystery for you:
L = local handicap
M = modified by the Handicap Committee N = 9-hole handicap index R = handicap automatically reduced for exceptional tournament performance SL = short course handicap WD = handicap withdrawn by the Handicap Committee
