I'm thrilled with the positive feedback I've received on Rachel Hauck's an My worktext. But don't just take my word for it. *g*  Here's one of my favorite reviews!

This how to book by award winning authors Susan May Warren and Rachel Hauck is the first how to book I couldn't wait to put down ... so I could start writing!

Susan teaches with a contagious enthusiasm that will spark your creativity and give you the tools to structure you ideas into an unforgettable novel.

When this book arrived in my mailbox I was working on chapter five of my fifth novel and ... well ... stuck. I knew exactly how I wanted the plot to unfold, but the scene felt flat. An hour later, I'd worked through three of the many helpful worksheets included in the book, and had found the inspiration I needed to make the chapter shine.

These worksheets aren't the kind of end-of-the-chapter exercises you find in many how to books. You know the kind I mean-the ones you never do. In fact, I use some of these worksheets as springboards for every scene I write to ensure the opening paragraph hooks the reader, the dialogue sizzles, and the story world I've built conveys the emotions I'd intended.

I'd like to say From the Inside...Out will be on my bookshelf for years to come, but the truth is it will likely be open on my desktop most of the time.

If you have yet to write your first novel, consider yourself blessed to have the opportunity to read this book first. Susan and Rachel succinctly lay out the key elements you need to create compelling characters whose story is believable, inspirational and irresistible.

Humbled in Holland..

I am often, these days, blown away by God's amazing grace. Like watching my oldest son graduate from high school, seeing him grow up to be an amazing young man. Like my in-laws driving in for the weekend to rescue me and my big party plans (my mother-in-law's superhero skills are making food for hundreds without breaking a sweat!). Like my parents hanging out with my loud, always hungry boys while my husband and I went to Europe.

Like a publisher in Holland flying us over and treating us like royalty, hosting us on a book tour through the Netherlands. I had a sort of out-of-body experience, like really, this couldn't be me, former missionary to Siberia, pajama-clad mom who serves popcorn and apples for dinner occasionally listening to a beautiful blond translator read my book aloud in DUTCH.  And a crowd gathered to listen. Who...what...is this for real?

Because of God, it is. And there's nothing more to it than that.  I've always been a believer in Ephesians 3:20 - (loosely paraphrased) God is able to do more than we can even ask or imagine. He's not only the fixer of the unfixable, he's the giver of things we can't even dream. I'm so thankful for that, and for the people who read the little stories I write. I hope they can see God at work in the pages of their own lives, doing Ephesians 3:20-ish things, too.

So, as my flowers bloom, as I enjoy the fragrances and freedoms of summer, I wanted to say thank you for the grace you give me in reading my books and for your encouraging words! Here are some shots of Holland and the fun - wish I could have taken all of you with me!

Article-on the couch hdr Reader Mail: from Carla

I have been rereading all of Susie's books.  The first weekend in June I read Prairie Hills for the first time.  It was such a sweet powerful story.  It got me asking the question " What do I know about my grandparents story?  My mom's mother is alive and is 96 yrs old. She is email savvy--emailing around the world literally.

My mom's  dad died at 90 yrs old (1 1/2 months after their 65th wedding anniversary in 2002).  June 11th was his birthday. I emailed my Oma  ( yes, he was German and she German from Russia) that day and told her about reading Susie's book. I asked her about her and Opa's story since I looked in the information that I have and realized that I did not have it. She has been emailing me their continuing story sharing things with me that she has not shared before and correcting misinformation that has been handed down in the family.  I have a family heirloom of an email series going on with my grandmother because I realized that I need to take advantage of the opportunity that I do have and took it

Wow Carla - that's amazing! What a blessing. Maybe you'll start a trend!

Pick up your own copy of Prairie Hills at Wal-Mart, your local Christian Bookstore or anywhere else books are sold.
