9 Reasons to be Optimistic About Tradeshows in 2010

Michael Hughes, vice president of consulting and research for Tradeshow Week, recently wrote a column about why he's optimistic about tradeshows this year. His 9 reasons (summarized):
- Economic rebound from deep global recession
- Attendees still like trade shows
- 90% of trade show managers think the worst is over
- More exhibitors expect trade show budget increases
- Trade show media has competitive advantage over other media
- Face-to-face exhibitions give access to high-level buyers better than digital media
- Growing overseas companies will want access to U.S. buyers

Scholarship Deadline is March 15th
|
The Promotional Products Education Foundation (PPEF) will award $100,000 in scholarships in 2010 and there is just one week left to submit applications. As a promotional products professional, you and your college-bound children are eligible to apply for one of 68 scholarships, which include:
- $1,000 one-year scholarships
- $1,000 Vincent J. Arena scholarship
- $1,000 Friends of PPMN scholarship for industry professionals
- $4,000 four-year scholarships ($1,000 per year)
- $5,000 Chairman's scholarships ($2,500 per year for junior and senior years of college)

|
Suppliers, don't forget to book your tradeshow booth by March 31st and take advantage of a free room during the show. The PPAMS MidSouth PromoShow will be August 12th and 13th at the Embassy Suites Conference Center and Hotel in Murfreesboro. PPAMS will pay for one room night for all suppliers who book their booth my the March 31st deadline. Click here to download an Exhibit Space Contract for the show.

Bowl-A-Thon to Raise Money for Junior Achievement
|
Lace up your shoes and shine your bowling balls for a trip down HOLLYWOOD BOWL-A-VARD on Tuesday, March 23rd. We are looking for company teams and individuals to join us in supporting Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee. Here's what you need to do: - Get together a team of 4 bowlers or volunteer to bowl as an individual (contact Ryan Small if you need help coordinating a team)
- Raise money! (of course you knew that was the goal here!) Each team member pledges to raise $125 for Junior Achievement ($500 as a team if your company wants to sponsor you outright). Contact Ryan for some great ideas to help you with reaching your goal.
- Show up, bowl and have a great time!
PPAMS will pay for your registration to the event ($10 per bowler which covers two games, shoe rental and an event t-shirt). The full details of the event are available online. This is not limited to just folks that are members of PPAMS or in the promotional products industry - your team can be family, friends, or anyone else that you know. FRANKLIN NAMED ONE OF NASHVILLE'S WOMEN OF INFLUENCE The Nashville Business Journal has named PPAMS member Beth Franklin (Multi-Task Solutions) as one of Nashville's Women of Influence. Franklin was recognized in the Entrepreneur category. Each year the NBJ honors area business women as "Women of Influence" for their leadership and contributions to the community. This year 30 women were chosen for recognition in seven categories. Click here to see the story and a complete list of this year's honorees.
LISA PARKER, MAS Congratulations to Lisa Parker with Avaline on achieving her status as a Master Advertising Specialist (MAS). Lisa is a past president of PPAMS and a two-time recipient of the PPAMS Scholarship, which helps members pay to attend industry education that is certified to help them achieve their MAS or CAS. FARRAR ELECTED TO TSAE BOARD OF DIRECTORS PPAMS executive director, Mark Farrar, was recently elected to the board of directors for the Tennessee Society of Association Executives (TSAE). Founded in 1963, TSAE assists hundreds of association executives and industry professionals in developing their skills and expanding their knowledge base by providing personal and professional development opportunities. Mark has been the executive director of PPAMS for 11 years.

Join Us For PPAMS Night at the Nashville Sounds
|
April 22nd will be "PPAMS Night" at the Nashville Sounds vs. Oklahoma City RedHawks baseball game. You and your family are invited to join us on the Delta Dental Party Deck prior to the game for an all-you-can-eat buffet of BBQ pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato chips, cole slaw, soft drinks, beer, water and cookies. In addition to the delicious food, we'll have some fun giveaways and door prizes. The cost is $30 per person for members and their families and $40 per person for non-members and reservations should be made no later than April 8th to guarantee your seat at the game. The price includes your food and drink during the party, goodies, and reserved seat for the game.
