| Navy Okays Contracts with Dallas TeleCollege |

Dallas TeleCollege Offers iPod Courses and More
The Dallas TeleCollege recently scored a coupe with the U.S. Navy, after being awarded two new military contracts for distance education programs. That means sailors; on-base and in-submarines around the world will take various Dallas TeleCollege and DCCCD courses and degree programs.
The Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE) - NCPACE gives Sailors the opportunity to complete their education programs and continue their personal and professional growth while on sea duty assignments-all tuition free. The TeleCollege will offer 7 courses in a CD-format and a new iPod-based pilot program will include 5 courses. The initial buzz about the iPod format seems to be quite popular with the NCPACE. The iPods come equipped with course videos and some even have a course syllabus, pre-loaded. All assignments and tests are provided in paper-form and sent to the military bases for the students. Based on feedback from the pilot, the TeleCollege plans to have more course offerings available to the Navy in the iPod format.
The second contract is for The Navy College Program, NCP which gives to Sailors academic credit for Navy training, work experience, and off-duty education. The NCP mission is to enable Sailors to obtain a college degree while on active duty. Sailors in this program will have an opportunity to earn their Associate's Degree from more than 7 different DCCCD degree plans. The TeleCollege will be working with Eastfield College to provide the educational programs for the sailors.

"Plagiarism Pitfalls and Prevention Strategies"
April 7 - 21, 2008
Available 24/7 online
Plagiarism seems to be on the increase. With the vast amount of internet material made available at a mouse-click, it is increasingly difficult to diagnose and trace suspected instances of plagiarism. For many teachers, it's a formidable task. In this workshop we aim to make this undertaking less complicated for instructors by providing helpful strategies and possible countermeasures.
Topics to be explored include:
- Discipline-based approaches to help combat plagiarism
- Information Literacy interventions
- Pro-active vs. re-active strategies
- Assignments that discourage plagiarism
- Online tools helpful in encouraging academic honesty
"Overcome Everything"
