eCampus Training Online
instructors2Can't seem to find the time to leave your office or classroom for training?  We are now offering eCampus ONLINE Courses-- via Wimba Classroom.  Instructors will now be able to attend eCampus training from the comfort of their own home or office.  Most classes run for 2 ½ hours, and are very simple to operate and navigate.  Wimba is the new virtual classroom that brings audio, video, application sharing and interaction to life.  The live sessions will be conducted by a trainer and can be watched live or achieved for playback/review at a later time.  If you are planning to take eCampus ONLINE Courses, you are expected to have a good grasp of Windows' principles and Internet concepts

Here is what you will need to get started:

  • A computer
  • A headset (with or without a microphone) --or even just  speakers--  and
  • An Internet connection (preferably DSL, digital subscriber  line, or better)

Interested instructors should register at least seven days before a scheduled session.

After registering for an eCampus ONLINE Course, instructors will receive Wimba Classroom set-up and log in instructions.

Get ready for exciting new updates to eCampus with the launch of Blackboard 8, just in time for Fall 2008.  But don't worry; there will be plenty of opportunities to learn the new features with training programs scheduled throughout the spring and summer.  All faculty who use eCampus are encouraged to take the new eCampus Training for Grade Book, starting this summer.  The new Grade Center offers more drop-down menus for compiling lists and sorting options and faculty ease.  Bb 8 also has new peer-and-self-assessment revisions and an updated content system.  Look for more details on training schedules at eCampus Training.
Navy Okays Contracts with Dallas TeleCollege
military and ipodDallas TeleCollege Offers iPod Courses and More
The Dallas TeleCollege recently scored a coupe with the U.S. Navy, after being awarded two new military contracts for distance education programs.  That means sailors; on-base and in-submarines around the world will take various Dallas TeleCollege and DCCCD courses and degree programs.

The Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE) - NCPACE gives Sailors the opportunity to complete their education programs and continue their personal and professional growth while on sea duty assignments-all tuition free.  The TeleCollege will offer 7 courses in a CD-format and a new iPod-based pilot program will include 5 courses.  The initial buzz about the iPod format seems to be quite popular with the NCPACE.  The iPods come equipped with course videos and some even have a course syllabus, pre-loaded.  All assignments and tests are provided in paper-form and sent to the military bases for the students.  Based on feedback from the pilot, the TeleCollege plans to have more course offerings available to the Navy in the iPod format.

The second contract is for The Navy College Program, NCP which gives to Sailors academic credit for Navy training, work experience, and off-duty education. The NCP mission is to enable Sailors to obtain a college degree while on active duty.  Sailors in this program will have an opportunity to earn their Associate's Degree from more than 7 different DCCCD degree plans.  The TeleCollege will be working with Eastfield College to provide the educational programs for the sailors.

"Plagiarism Pitfalls and Prevention Strategies"
April 7 - 21, 2008
Available 24/7 online

Plagiarism seems to be on the increase. With the vast amount of internet material made available at a mouse-click, it is increasingly difficult to diagnose and trace suspected instances of plagiarism. For many teachers, it's a formidable task. In this workshop we aim to make this undertaking less complicated for instructors by providing helpful strategies and possible countermeasures.

Topics to be explored include:

  • Discipline-based approaches to help combat plagiarism
  • Information Literacy interventions
  • Pro-active vs. re-active strategies
  • Assignments that discourage plagiarism
  • Online tools helpful in encouraging academic honesty
