From Dr. Harter
I will never forget the first monsoon that Sister Harter and I experienced in Arizona.
It began to rain in July one day and the roof started leaking. Initially, it seemed to be no major concern. We simply rectified the problem by putting out a few old buckets.
However, as time went on, there seemed to be not enough buckets to catch the rain water as it came through the ceiling. So we gathered the large garbage cans together to catch the excess water.
Still yet, the large garbage cans, along with the buckets, were not enough. I then requested that every available pot and pan be brought into the tabernacle from the cafeteria.
Friends, it was terrible. Water literally poured into the building. It was coming in around the light fixtures, the existing ceiling fans, and the ceiling tiles. A great number of the ceiling tiles literally fell to the floor. There were so many leaks in the tabernacle that it was quite overwhelming even to me. It literally broke our heart. Every person just felt like crying. It was such a pitiful sight and an indictment to the HOUSE OF GOD. It seemed as though the devil was there, laughing and saying, "Was this the building where God's power was manifested in a great way? Look at it now."
I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT I DID WHEN IT SEEMED THERE WAS NO WAY TO STOP THE WATER AND A SPIRIT OF DISCOURAGEMENT SEEMED TO SETTLE UPON THOSE PRESENT.
I gathered together everyone who was with me. We found only one small place near the altar where it was yet dry and the water had not yet reached it. [Even though shortly thereafter the water did reach it and soon about 2 1/2 inches of water filled the entire tabernacle.]
I realized that there was only one thing that we could do. We must call upon the Lord.
We literally got down on our knees and prayed. We asked the Lord to make a way for us to get a new roof on the tabernacle so that water would no longer enter the building.
After we prayed sincerely before the Lord, we then stood to our feet and began to lift our hands, worshipping and praising God. Then I led everyone in singing that old song, "I KNOW THE LORD WILL MAKE A WAY SOMEHOW."
And friends, even though it was seven years ago, I believe the Lord is making the way for us to get a new roof on the tabernacle. It was a long time in coming because there were so many things to take care of prior to putting on the new roof. But with God's help, this is the last monsoon that the interior of the tabernacle will have to experience, at least in our lifetime. PRAISE GOD!
