Change of Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code

After much anticipation, the Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code (MUPC) has took effect on March 31st.  It promises to simplify and streamline the process for most estates, while preserving the procedural protections in prior law if needed.

New forms and instructions are now available on the Probate and Family Court website which can be reached by clicking  here

Click here to read an excellent overview of the MUPC in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and here for the new fee schedule for filing papers at the Probate Court.

Open Enrollment for Acquired Brain Injury Waiver Program in May

Under the Hutchinson case settlement, Massachusetts residents of nursing homes with acquired and traumatic brain injury may receive services to move home or to a less institutional residential setting.  Open enrollment for this waiver program will be in May.

During April, representatives of the University of Massachusetts and the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts will present six training programs around the state to answer the following questions:

*  How did the process work?
*  What were the benefits?
*  Was the transition into the community difficult?
*  What programs and services are provided?
*  How has it worked out?
