Budget Cuts &

Your Library

Governor Tom Corbett unveiled his budget plan for 2012-2013.  Again this year, as the economic recovery takes hold more slowly than we would like, the state budget is austere. Funding for public libraries may be trimmed by 5%. A Note from the Library's Leadersip Team

On behalf of the Library Board, Foundation Board, and staff, we want to thank you for your support

of the Easttown Library Foundation in 2011.  We are proud to note that over 600 individuals and families made a gift to the Annual Fund last year.  For 2012 we have set an Annual Fund goal of $100,000 all of which will be invested in our community Library. We hope you will take this opportunity to make your 2012 Annual Gift by using our secure website at www.easttownlibrary.org.

One of the highlights of 2011 was the establishment of an Endowment Fund for the Library. The Easttown Library Foundation Endowment Fund is under the umbrella of the Chester County Community Foundation (CCCF).  The Foundation Board's purpose in creating an Endowment Fund is to grow an independent source of revenue to enrich the Library's present and secure its future for generations to come. For additional details on the Endowment Fund click here

Great public libraries build community and are an essential element for the quality of life for every age group. In these challenging times, people have come to rely more than ever on the service of Easttown Library. Circulation of materials has increased 52% in the last 5 years. Your support through the Annual Fund helps our Library provide essential services, materials and programs on which the people in our community increasingly depend. Our commitment to you, our donors and customers, is top of mind as we strive to provide service 65 hours a week, for 340 days a year.

Both the Annual Fund and the Endowment Fund help to secure the Library's place as an accessible and essential resource for all.

Sincerely,
Dennis P. Leeper, President         Kathryn E. Lewis, President

Easttown Library Foundation Endowment Fund
Receives its First Gift
The very first individual gift for the Endowment Fund came from retired Library staffer, Heidi Sproat. When asked why she made this gift, Heidi wrote the following:
Heidi SproatYou are truly blessed to have the Easttown Library in your midst serving the needs of your community. It is a gem. Yes, I am a former employee, but now I live in a different city and state. I will forever remember the kindness, proficiency, patience, energy and dedication of Easttown Library staff. What better way to insure the Library's sustainability, possibility, and potential than by contributing to the Easttown Library Foundation Endowment Fund. I'm energized that I was first contributor to this Fund, sort of like skiing "first tracks" down the mountain on pristine freshly fallen snow. Yes, you too can make a difference. Make your tracks count! Your Easttown Library belongs to you!
Easttown Library Honored by Bequest from the Estate of Harry S. Alwine, Jr.
Harry S. Alwine,  Jr. was born in Spring Grove, PA.  He graduated from Spring Grove High School and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from William & Mary College.  He taught chemistry at Conestoga High School for over 30 years.  Harry was a regular visitor to our Library where, most days, he sat by the fireplace and read the newspaper. He loved to travel, especially by train. The Library is honored by his bequest of more than $27,000 which has been deposited into the Easttown Library Foundation Endowment Fund.
