Lifesaving Equipment Installed
Students, employees and patrons of Pasco School District are in safe hands if an emergency were to occur thanks to the installation of life saving equipment at locations throughout the District. Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) have been installed at Pasco High, Chiawana High, Edgar Brown Stadium, the PSD Transportation Department, and the Booth Building.
As an added safety feature, District buildings which are more than one story high have been equipped with evacuation chairs which are specially designed to move a person down stairs in case of a fire or other emergency when elevators are inoperable.

PHS TENTH AVENUE SINGERS PRESENT
'THE SHOW GOES ON'

Pasco High School's Tenth Avenue Singers will present an evening of modern music with a central theme of hope at "The Show Goes On" April 26-28 at 7 p.m. and April 28 at 1 p.m. in Gregson Auditorium.
Under the direction of Rob Dennis the group performs a wide variety of music throughout the community each year. During the holiday season they performed carols for Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, local chamber groups, and at District and school events.
In addition to these local performances the group produces a show each year in the spring where the students guide the musical selections as well as the theme. This year's program will feature modern music in a number of genres including pop, hip hop, rap, rock and country.
"The title of the show is one of the songs in the show," says Dennis. "Our central message this year is about hope and survival against the odds. The musical selections echo the message that you have the power to change your life and the world."
General admission tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Reserved seating tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased from Tenth Avenue Singers or through the Pasco High School choir office by calling 543-6770 ext. 3702.

PASCO'S CRYSTAL APPLE WINNERS
|
| | Paula Gelhen of Longfellow Elementary, and Ev Abernethy of Frost Elementary at the Crystal Apple Awards ceremony. |
Longfellow's Evelyn "Ev" Abernethy and Frost's Paula Gelhen, both reading recovery and leveled literacy intervention specialists, were honored by ESD 123 at the 2012 Crystal Apple Excellence in Education Awards ceremony at Columbia Basin College on March 15.
Says Longfellow Principal Diana Cissne, "With her focus always on the child, Ev helps some of the most at-risk students in Pasco get the firm foundation in reading they need to achieve to their highest potential. She is an advocate for each student and instills in them the belief that their success is not just possible, but inevitable."
"Paula is an outstanding teacher who brings a love of teaching and learning to her profession," says Frost Principal Dominique Dennis. "She is highly reflective in her daily teaching of children as well as in her coaching of colleagues. She continues to search for effective teaching strategies to reach the needs of all learners."
After 30 years of faithful service to the students of Pasco both Abernethy and Gehlen will be retiring this year. Congratulations to these exemplary educators for this award and for their stellar careers. |
