In the Right Direction 

Special Education Updates
Step By Step to Inclusive Practices
Step by Step to Inclusive Schools is a systems-wide model for improving the quality and amount of time students spend in inclusive settings. Over the next three years all SFUSD schools will be training on this model.

Trainings will focus on:
  1. Instructional Setting
  2. Collaboration
  3. Instruction
  4. In-Class Support
  5. Peer and Family Relationships
  6. Effective Use of Personnel

Diana Browning Wright
Tiers of Behavior Intervention (RTI)

Starting September 20th, 28 schools have signed up to participate in the first cohort.  The training geared towards implementation of tiered levels of positive behavioral intervention under the professional development of Diana Browning Wright. This training will be in relationship to supporting access to the Common Core.

 

 Training will focus on:
  1.  Rationale for integrating behavioral and academic support systems in schools
  2. Describe six major components needed to install an effective and efficient multi-tiered behavioral support systen at the district and school level
  3. Provide strategies for ensuring adoption, implementations and maintenance of behavioral RTI systems 

An Example of Three Tiers 

 

Fountas and Pinnell K-1 Assessment

Over 300 teachers in more that 60 K-5 and Early Education schools will participate in a Fountas and Pinnell Assessment Training starting September 18th. 

 

 

 

The Training will Focus on:

  1. How to administer the assessment
  2. How to use the Literacy Continuum
  3. Hot to manage the classroom to create 1:1 assessment opportunities and lesson planning
  4. How Fountas and Pinnell connects to Treasures material

The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education is to advocate for effective Special Education programs and services.
Meetings are held on the forth Thursday of every month.
