Please Attend and Be Heard!
There is going to be only one public hearing with the developer regarding the proposed Walgreen's project, and it is this Tuesday.
What:Public Meeting for the Rezoning of 2 Acres on the Southwest Corner of Morehead & Kenilworth (Walgreen's Project)
When: Tuesday, August 7th, at 7:00 p.m.
Where:Fellowship Hall in Room 207 at Covenant Presbyterian Church Who:Everyone with an interest in this Walgreen's rezoning There has been much discussion regarding the Lincoln-Harris rezoning of the Springs' residential properties located across from the Ascension Lutheran Church on the southwest corner of Morehead and Kenilworth. They plan to tear down the white house and the Tudor apartment building on Morehead as well as the three adjacent homes on Kenilworth to make room for a Walgreens drug store with a drive-thru and a small office building.
The main concern is the use of the site as a large drug store with a drive-thru as it is not the highest and best use for the site. The encroachment of this level of retail into the neighborhood will put tremendous strain on our small neighborhood streets and infrastructure. Further, the newly adopted PED Overlay District encourages the re-use of existing buildings that contribute to the unique character and history of the area, and so tearing down these existing buildings of historic character on Morehead Street is not consistent with PED. The City requires the developer to host a public meeting to discuss the proposed rezoning with the effected neighbors. Please come, learn more about the proposal, share your comments, and ask questions. |
