Duke Endowment and Walgreen's Projects on Agenda This Week
The following 2 development projects will be presented at the DCDA Land Use meeting this Wednesday at 7 PM at the Tom Sykes Center. If you want to have your voice heard, please attend this Wednesday's meeting.
Morehead between Myrtle and Oriole
The Duke Endowment is rezoning the block on Morehead St. where the old Frankie's restaurant had been located between Myrtle and Oriole. The project is well conceived and is expected to be a good addition to Dilworth, but main issue for the City, the adjacent neighbors and the DCDA is the height, which is significantly higher than what is allowed by the pending PED Overlay.
Southwest Corner of Morehead and Kenilworth
Lincoln-Harris is rezoning the Springs' residential properties located across from the Ascension Lutheran Church on the corner of Morehead and Kenilworth (including the white house, the tudor apartment building on corner, and the three adjacent houses on Kenilworth). They plan to tear down the existing homes and build a Walgreens drug store with a drive-thru and a small office building. Major concerns include: 1) the use of the site as a pharmacy, 2) the precedent of having a drive-thru window on Morehead St., and 3) the traffic impact if left-hand turns are allowed in and out of the site.
