It has been an exciting month with releases in CMake, ITK and ParaView, our participation in VisWeek, and our preparations for Supercomputing and RSNA. We did take some time for fun too - with our Carrboro office holding their annual Fall Picnic, and many Kitwareans getting into the Halloween spirit. We hope you are enjoying Autumn too!

A New Release For ITKv3 and Continued Work on ITKv4

It has been a busy month for the ITK team. They've released ITK 3.20.1, a bug-fix release that primarily addresses build errors for newer compilers, specifically GSS-4.6, 64-bit Visual Studio, and Clang 3.0.

The ITK development team is also actively encouraging community users to get involved with the development of ITK v4. Instructions for those interested in participating can be found on the ITK Wiki. Julien Jomier has also written "ITK v4 - Migration Guide," announcing our new migration guide for those making the transition to version 4. Additionally, the team has  implemented a new crowdsourcing system for collecting feedback on how to improve the documentation for the new version; more details can be found on ITKv4 - Crowdsourcing Documentation.

The Kitware Team Visits Providence, Rhode Island

Kitware attended VisWeek 2011 in Providence the last week in October. This was the 10th consecutive year Kitware has sponsored the event, and we added our support to the Large-Scale Data Analysis and Visualization symposium. (Check out Utkarsh's blog post on this event.) We presented several papers and participated in the panel "Verification in Visualization: Building a Common Culture." In addition to being active in the technical sessions, we had a chance to meet with many of our collaborators. We hope to see everyone again next year in Seattle!

New Release Includes Improvement to Server Manager and Streaming

Kitware and the entire ParaView team are pleased to announce the release of ParaView 3.12.0. The ParaView binaries for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X are available on the ParaView download page, along with a zip file of the source and instructions on how to obtain the source via Git.

This release features improvements to the ParaView ServerManager and the streaming framework, and includes more than 190 resolved issues, all of which can be found in the change-log. An updated user guide for ParaView 3.12 can also be found on the ParaView Wiki.

story4Tricks and Treats

They May Look Cute, But They Are Pure Evil!

Many of us at Kitware are forever young-at-heart, so when the admin team encouraged everyone to take part in Halloween and dress up, many heeded the call. Katie, Matt, and Xiaoxiao came as one of the scariest things facing any developer - patent trolls!! Luckily we also had a ninja to keep them in check, in addition to some goblins and other spooky costumes. Of course, being Kitware, the candy was aplenty! Check out our Halloween blog post for more photos.

story5A Fall Celebration

Kitware's Carrboro Office Holds Their Annual Fall Picnic

The Carborro office (along with a few picnic-crashers from the Clifton Park office) enjoyed a beautiful day at Rigmor House on Saturday, October 8th.  Celebrating southern-style, we had plenty of barbecue and of course a rock wall and bouncy obstacle course to help us work off those calories! Check out our blog posting for additional pictures of the event.
