What is Mindful Living?

"Mindful living is all from moment to moment ... being aware step by step, breath by breath, thought by thought, feeling by feeling, memory by memory, sensation by sensation, and so forth. Such is the flow of life".

Dr. Ian Ellis Jones

meditation master, trainer, executive coach, counsellor, and scholar in psychology, philosophy and theology, teaches mindfulness and mindfulness meditation. For more information, visit his

Meet a Mindfulness Graduate

Danielle Owens describes her MBSR Experience

I was one of Madeline's students in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in February and March of 2011. The material I learned was powerful and enormously useful to me as I face a very difficult time in my life. The course was eye-opening, and Madeline was knowledgeable, enjoyable, and authentic as a teacher. The experience created clarity and strong movement forward for me. By developing my capacity for mindfulness I've learned how to pause my life and find the joy in every day, one moment at a time. After competing the course, I find myself wanting to learn everything I can about mindfulness, and to stay connected with others who practice this way of living.

New Class: Yoga for Stress Relief

Take the survey and get what you want

Using the ancient healing practices of yoga: breathing, relaxation, movement, and meditation, and the latest advances in mind-body research, this class is for anyone who wants to transform their experience of stress. This class will guide you in a gentle yoga sequence and a restorative practice, allowing for a deep relaxation and quieting of the mind and body. The longer and more steadily you practice, the more benefits to your body, nervous system and well-being. Restorative Yoga evokes the healing "relaxation response" through gentle stretches combined with conscious breathing and guided meditation, and the use of props such as pillows, blankets, bolsters, and blocks to support the body. While fully supported, the body is invited to drop into deep stillness, relaxing even the deepest layers of tension, and the mind is guided in healing thoughts, sensations, and emotions. The benefits of continued participation in a yoga practice are improvements in sleep, physical well-being and mood, release of stress and tension, and a calming effect on many systems of the body.

Take this online survey to indicate your preferences as to days of the week, time of day, pricing, and other elements under consideration in the development of this program.

Integrative Medicine

The Future of Health Care

It's caring, it's cost effective, and it works. The Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine defines integrative medicine as "the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, health care professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing."

In this article by Kelly McGonigal, PhD, learn how Duke Integrative Medicine, Dr. Dean Ornish, and other change-agents within American health care, are reframing the perspective of medicine from "disease care" to one of true health promotion. In this new perspective, the role of mindfulness is central.
