Quarterly e-Newsletter from the Shane Victorino Foundation                              WINTER 2012

Message from Shane and Melissa

shane and melissaAloha! With Spring Training now upon us, we want to take this opportunity to share what we've been up to over the off-season. The Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club welcomed its first members and the staff has been busy implementing education, leadership, art and fitness programs. It was amazing to see the transformation of this building, but it's even more fulfilling to see children's lives being changed every day at the Club.

We held our first fundraiser on the island of Oahu, which included a fantastic day of golf, topped off by an evening reception. We also held a toy drive in Las Vegas for local children in need. We are truly grateful for the outpouring of support we received at both events. Our 2012 Fashion Show is right around the corner, so for those of you in Philly, please note the event is in June this year. Keep an eye out for details in the next several days!

We look forward to an exciting season ahead, both on as well as off the field. Thank you for your continued support - it is because of you that we are able to make a difference in the lives of so many!

All our best,

Melissa and Shane Victorino

OUR WORK

Welcome Victorino Club Members!

BGC open houseIn January, the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club held an open house for local community members. Shane and Melissa welcomed parents and children and tested out the basketball court with some of the kids.

As expressed by Shane, "It is great to see how excited the community is about this Club. The smiles on the kids' faces make all the hard work and effort that went into the renovations worth every second."

Programming at the Club will include: the arts, character & leadership development, education & career development, health & life skills, and sports, fitness & recreation.

You can view additional photos from the event and of the newly renovated club on our website.

Holiday Cheer

In December, the Foundation hosted its annual Las Vegas toy drive benefiting The Shade Tree women's and children's shelter and Toys for Tots. The event, held at PT's Gold, was a huge success! Close to 3,000 toys were collected - brightening the holidays for so many children in need. Pictured below with Shane is a group from The Shade Tree at the toy delivery.

Donor Spotlight

Special thanks to Tom Gonsiewski and Kampus Klothes for being an amazing partner to the Foundation! Kampus Klothes has graciously donated all of our screening and embroidery for the past three years and we can't thank them enough for their support.

As Good as Gold

In addition to hosting our 2011 toy golden gamingdrive, PT's Gold's parent company, Golden Gaming Entertainment, designated the Shane Victorino Foundation as the beneficiary of their annual charity golf tournament in Las Vegas. The event raised an incredible $18,600! Words can't express how much we value their partnership.

The Aloha Spirit

2011 marked the second year of our partnership with Zippy's restaurants in Hawaii. Our promotion raised $22,000 through sales of the Vic Pac and baseball cutouts. Zippy's have been a generous sponsor of the Foundation and we look forward to many more years ahead!

At the end of last year, Shane and the Foundation began a new partnership with Foodland Hawaii, a locally-owned grocery chain. From now until November, you can show your support by purchasing the Flyin' Hawaiian poke at any Foodland store statewide! $0.25 from each pound sold goes to SVF, so be sure to pick some up today!

Charity Golf Classic

The Shane Victorino Foundation held its first fundraiser on the island of Oahu on January 30, 2012. The event was co-chaired by Shane Victorino and BlackSand Capital Managing Partner BJ Kobayashi. It was an amazing day of golf at the Waialae Country Club (home of the Sony Open) and evening reception at The Kahala Resort. Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie and Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle joined us for the reception, along with Hawaii Five-0's (and Pennsylvania native) Daniel Dae Kim. Photos from the event can be found on our website.
