Quarterly e-Newsletter from the Shane Victorino Foundation                                      FALL 2011

Message from Shane and Melissa

Aloha! The past few months have been an incredible time for our Foundation and we're thrilled to share a few highlights with you. First, our fashion show raised more than $325,000 to provide opportunities for children in need! Only in its second year, this event has become one of the premier events in Philly. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, our teammates and everyone who contributed towards this evening.

Second, throughout our lives, there are special, unforgettable moments in time, which stand out from the rest. For us, the opening of the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club was one of these times. This project was more than a year in the making, so to see the once dilapidated building come back to life has been truly amazing. Even more amazing are the countless lives the updated facility will touch. The city of Philadelphia embraced our family from the very beginning and we are honored to be able to give back to the community in this way.

Now, as we look ahead to our work in Hawaii, we are excited about our current efforts (which you'll learn about below) as well as the impact we will make in the future! Thank you for teaming with our Foundation to build a brighter future for underserved youth.

All our best,

Melissa and Shane Victorino

OUR WORK

A GRAND Opening

September 22, 2011 was a momentous day for us and the shane and melissa w/ street sign

Nicetown community, as we celebrated the Grand Opening of the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club. Master of ceremonies, ESPN's Chris Berman, welcomed the guests, followed by a proclamation presented by the Mayor's office. Also joining us were special guests from Major League Baseball, the Phillies organization, and other members of the community.

The newly renovated facility will provide programs and services to more than 300 children per day. The 16,000 square foot building features a full-size gymnasium, teen center, game room, media/technology center, after-school study lounge, kitchen, offices and other ancillary spaces. In an area where more than 60% of households are led by a single parent and nearly 50% of the families live below the poverty line, this Club will offer a safe, positive place for kids to learn, grow and play.

You can view additional photos from the event and of the updated club on our Facebook page.

RBI Jr League

This summer, kids from Little League, Junior RBI League, PAL, Access Sports and other groups were treated to a day at the ballpark through our charity ticket program. They were given game tickets, food concessions, t-shirts and went down to the field to watch batting practice. But the highlight of their day was meeting Shane and posing for photos. This season, close to 200 children participated in this program, many of whom had never been to a Phillies game or would not have had a chance to, without it.

"We cannot describe how happy our children felt to be on the field and take pictures with their idols, some of them still cannot believe that this just happened. We want to encourage you to continue developing these types of programs because it does make a big difference in these children's lives." - R&R Mejia Junior RBI League

Helping Hawaii's Keiki (Children)

As part of our efforts to provide opportunities to underserved youth in Hawaii, we are teaming up with local non-profits who share our mission. Earlier this year, we held a Request for Proposals and have selected the following beneficiaries for 2011: Best Buddies Hawaii, Hawaii Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike, Maui Family Support Services, and Palama Settlement. We look forward to working with these groups to serve Hawaii's keiki!
