Happy April!  Each day we coach professionals on how to best prepare for interviews with our clients.  Through the past few years we have found that there are typical questions that surface more often than not.  We want you to go out as prepared as possible so here are some typically asked questions you should expect in an interview.  We hope that this gives you the confidence you need to shine!

  1. First questions will likely be something to build rapport...i.e. "Are you a native Tulsan?, Do you know (x) person , I know he worked with your previous employer".  Expect something to get the conversation rolling and to break the ice.  It is here that many professionals over share so be positive, excited but brief.
  2. "Tell me about a time when you had to overcome a major obstacle?" The interviewer is trying to get a picture of your past.  Please refrain from talking about office drama, bad bosses etc.  Keep the conversation positive - this is your chance to really showcase something extraordinary that you did!
  3. Tell me why we should hire you?  Everyone should know the answer to this- this is where you talk about your expertise, why you are different, and why you would be a great employee.
  4. What interests you about this position? This allows the interviewer to ascertain how you feel about the job and the company.
  5. Why do people climb mountains? Expect an "out of the box question" to allow someone to determine what kind of thinker you are.  I was once asked, during an interview, "Teach me something I know nothing about."  My response was a step by step guide on how to train a dog to hold a treat on their nose and eat it on command!  BTW I got the job.
  6. Why did you get into this line of work? This allows one to measure the fit between you and the company.
  7. But enough about you, what about us?  Expect some questions to test your knowledge of the company.  A business wants to know that you did your homework and that you understand a little about who they are.

I hope these help.  Should any of you have other questions that have been thrown your way that you would like to share please send them to info@parttimepros.com and we will post them on our facebook page for all to see.  As a reminder, please "Like" our facebook page to ensure you get updates on all of our postings and job alerts.  In addition, if you have unlimited texting on your mobile device, please select the SMS option to allow you to receive text messages the minute a new job is announced.  We are now announcing all new jobs with the hash mark #PTPJobAlert or #TMPJobAlert.  If you have a twitter account you can type this in to see a summary of most recent job postings!  Staying connected will increase your chances of connecting with your ideal employer!

 All our best,

Carey
