LetterGreetings!

 kennedy

NETA is excited to offer you Rockin' the Wall, a one hour documentary that presents the history of the Fall of the Berlin Wall through the experiences of well-know rock musicians and those who lived behind the wall. Among the rock musicians featured are Robby Krieger (The Doors), Mark Stein and Vinny Martell (Vanilla Fudge), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot), David Paich (Toto), Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets), and the group Mother's Finest who played in East Berlin just weeks before the Wall fell.

In Rockin' the Wall, viewers see music emerge as a force of liberation as they hear about rock and roll's surprising part in bringing down the Berlin Wall and smashing the Iron CurtainFor Americans it is not easy to fathom the degree of censorship the arts have been subjected to in Communist countries. But censorship was a daily reality for those living behind the Iron Curtain. The mere act of expressing one's individuality constituted a potential threat to Communist governments who viewed self-expression and the Arts as potential acts of revolution.  Music provided a key thread upon which the anti-Communist struggle gained ground.

Rockin' the Wall presents perspectives from rockers who played on both sides of the Wall as well as survivors of the Communist regimes who recall the lifeline that rock music provided them.  It features compelling footage, historic and new interviews and several original songs written exclusively for the documentary.

There are special screenings of Rockin' the Wall  planned by the producers in partnership with Goethe-Institutes  (http://www.goethe.de/ins/us/lp/net/enindex.htm) in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, where broadcast dates would be promoted if the timing works.

Rockin' the Wall is produced by Rockin' the Wall Films. The documentary is presented by Specialty Studios, LLC  and distributed to public television stations by NETA. Based on the book Seven Events That Made America, America by Larry Schweikart, the special is produced by Larry Schweikart and Marc Leif. Executive Producers are Steve Lopez, Steve Michelson and director is Marc Lief.  It is funded by Sennheiser and local underwriting is permissible.
