LetterGreetings!

South Carolina ETV is pleased to present the second release of The Adventists, a documentary film that demystifies the Seventh-day Adventists as it explores the body-mind-spirit connections inherent in their health message and other views. Adventists live nearly ten years longer than their neighbors and your viewers can learn why. Since its initial release, the documentary has became an Amazon best-selling documentary and won the Gabriel Award for best national program on a topic of religion.

By faith, Adventists believe in the near Second Coming. But rather than idly waiting, they are outliving others and creating unique and highly successful health care facilities and hospitals across America. A native-born church that arose from the religious fervor of mid-19th century America, Adventism couples a firm belief in the near Second Coming of Christ with a remarkable focus on health, wholeness and well-being.

"Health care continues to be one of the most important but vexing questions facing every American. What we tried to present in The Adventists (producer Doblmeier tells us) is a fresh look at the intersection of health care and religion, faith and healing, and to understand why Seventh-day Adventists are living up to 10 years longer than most Americans and why their health care facilities have achieved world class status."

Historical re-enactments bring alive the church's beginnings and breathtaking medical and surgical techniques show the way forward for this pioneering faith community that emphasizes a healthy diet and regular exercise for the body, education for the mind and community and fellowship for the spirit.

Rights for The Adventists are now extended through March 31, 2014, and the special is available for Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, and/or National Public Health Week, April 2-8, 2012.

The Adventists is produced by Journey Films, the producers of "Bonhoeffer" and "The Power of Forgiveness." Martin Doblmeier is producer/director. It is presented by South Carolina ETV and distributed to public television stations by American Public Television (APT--Exchange). Principal funding is provided by SOUTH CENTRAL INC., VERSACARE and others (a list of which is available from the producer). Local underwriting is permitted.
