LetterGreetings!

WNED and APT are pleased to announce the February 6, 2012 release of Hockey: More Than a Game, a one-hour documentary that celebrates the spirit, traditions and compelling stories behind one of the fastest and most challenging sports in the world.

Capturing the timeless excitement of competition, Hockey: More Than a Game reveals the evolution of hockey over nearly 200 years from open-pond outdoor games to professional play in packed National Hockey League arenas. Among other historical insights, the film covers the much-disputed origins of hockey, the Stanley Cup and its patron namesake, the Colored Hockey League and the emergence of women in hockey.

Authors, historians, NHL players, a small-town coach, the owner of the oldest hockey stick, and Walter Gretzky, the father of hockey icon Wayne Gretzky, each share their perspectives. Other notable interviewees include: Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, Hall of Fame center Phil Esposito, Buffalo Sabres teammates Jason Pominville and Tyler Myers, Team Canada associate coach Lindy Ruff and others.

Hockey: More Than a Game is produced, directed and written by Alan Aylward. Co-Producer/writers are Jeremy Major and Aaron Lam. John Grant and David Rotterman are executive producers. The program is presented by WNED and is distributed by APT (Exchange). Major funding for Hockey: More Than A Game is provided by New Era. Additional funding is provided by NOCO, the Frank L. Ciminelli Family Foundation, the Consulate of Canada in Buffalo, and the Royal Bank of Canada. Local underwriting is permissible.
