Executive Director Update

Congratulations to MCC Board Chair Marcia Townley for being invited to serve on the Village to Village Network's www.vtvnetwork.org Advisory Committee! The purpose of the 11 member committee is to:

  • help facilitate the flow of ideas within the Village to Village (VtV) Network
  • collect a meaningful body of information that will be useful in assessing the impact of the Village movement, and
  • advise the Board of Managers and staff in areas such as the national conference, member recruitment, member benefits, research and policy issues, formalization of Village Guiding Principles, exploration of Standards of Excellence for open Villages, and enhancements to the VtV Network website.

I will be attending the Village to Village Network's Annual Gathering October 15, 16 & 17 in Atlanta to connect and collaborate with other Villages across the country.

Did You Know?

Most people enjoy the personal mobility and independence associated with driving. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, our vision, hearing, focus, reaction time, and information processing time may change as we age and may hinder driving safety. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has developed a free screening tool, Roadwise Review Online, to help older adults measure physical and mental capabilities that contribute to driving safety. Roadwise Rx is a free online tool from the AAA that provides education on medication side effects and interactions and addresses how these effects may impact safe driving abilities. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has also developed a brain fitness program, DriveSharp, which is available for purchase and is clinically proven to help drivers to "see more, react faster, and cut crash risk by up to 50%."  DriveSharp exercises are designed to train the brain to process visual information faster, expand the field of view, and improve our attention. Click here for more information from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
