Executive Director Update
It we can trust weather.com, the rain today will hold off until 5:00 -- a good reason to arrive at our monthly happy hour early! Another good reason? Psycho Suzi's does not reserve tables on the patio and only seats parties when half are present. So, if you can, join us at 4:00 or 4:30. I would recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat and an umbrella! You'll find more details below.
Earlier this summer we invited Mill City Commons members to participate in round table discussions on the topic of "aging in community". Members reacted to the work of an MCC Aging in Place Task Force that had worked on the topic over the winter. (You'll find a recap of the round table discussions here.) The number one topic members asked MCC to address was dealing with health crises. Based on that feedback, we've scheduled our first Healthy Village Series: Bumps in the Road program for September 18 at 3:00. Pathfinder Care Management Founder and CEO Kathleen Dempsey and LifeSprk General Manager Beth Nemec will share proactive strategies for planning for those unplanned bumps. To register, click here.
I hope to see you this afternoon! -- Linnea

A note from Patti Ries, Mill City Commons
Program Coordinator
Did You Know?
The United States is experiencing unprecedented growth in the 65+ age group. The National Council on Aging, United Healthcare and USA Today recently surveyed 2,250 adults age 60+ to assess their readiness for aging and their perceptions of community resources for older adults. The majority of those surveyed expressed optimism about their health and reported a strong sense of purpose and passion in their lives and in their future. Nine out of ten people surveyed indicated that they intend to age in place in their current homes over the next 5-10 years. Survey results also revealed that many older adults have concerns related to future financial security, caregiving needs, and the availability of community resources and services. Click here to read more about the survey.
