A note from Patti Ries, Mill City Commons
Program Coordinator
Did You Know?
In preparing Minnesota for the Age Wave, the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Minnesota Department of Health, and Minnesota Board on Aging collaborated to develop strategies to promote successful aging in Minnesota. One of these strategies is "Fostering Communities for a Lifetime." According to their report, Transform 2010, most older Minnesotans want to age in place in their homes and neighborhoods. Communities for a Lifetime are designed to support persons of all ages. Key elements of Communities for a Lifetime include: Accessible physical infrastructure including safe sidewalks, trails, transportation options and housing choices, social infrastructure including opportunities for social connections and civic engagement, and service infrastructure including access to information, resources, and services.
