World View: Travel Peru in NE Minneapolis
Tuesday, July 17, 7:00-8:30 pm; ArtAndes, Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson Street NE #285
Melanie Ebertz first traveled to Peru in the mid-eighties with an interest in textiles and hiking the villages of the Andes. She developed a great

passion, respect and knowledge for the culture of the Andean people and built strong relationships with the PERUVIAN weavers. This led to the creation of ArtAndes, a small business devoted to the design and marketing of fine textiles from Peru and unique cultural small group trips. Her commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those with whom she works resulted in the creation of Comunidad, a nonprofit organization committed to providing the people of the Andes opportunities and tools to sustain themselves through education and nutrition. Hear Melanie's story and meet Peruvian weaver Wilber Quispe at her studio at the Northrup King Building.

A note from Patti Ries, Mill City Commons
Program Coordinator
Did You Know?
We all experience forgetfulness in our daily lives. Where did I leave my keys? What is his name? These types of memory lapse are normal! An article from Harvard Health Publications lists seven normal memory problems: Transience is the tendency to forget things over time. Absentmindedness refers to forgetting things due to lack of focus. Blocking may be experienced as the inability to retrieve a name or fact that is on "the tip-of-your-tongue." Misattribution occurs when we forget some of the details of an event from our memory. As we experience suggestibility, we may believe that something is a real memory through the power of suggestion. Our personal bias may shape our memories. We may also experience the persistence of memories related to negative or traumatic events. We all may experience some of these forms of forgetfulness in our daily lives. However, if memory loss begins to disrupt your daily life and relationships, it is best to consult with your physician. According to an article from Helpguide, exercising the body and brain, engaging in social connections, eating a healthy diet, managing stress, getting adequate sleep, and avoiding smoking will contribute to cognitive wellness.
