Executive Director Update

As many of you know, our tech guru, Andy Trawick, has moved to Dallas, Texas, and we are looking for a new resource for tech support. Andy has recommended a small company, Call That Girl, that he believes will service our members the way he did with remote sessions or an in home visit. Members have also surfaced a couple of names, and I am talking to them as well.

Call That Girl (CTG) is owned and operated by Lisa Hendrickson, and Lisa tells me around the metro area she is affectionately referred to as "the IT girl" or "that computer girl", hence the website: www.callthatgirl.biz . CTG originated in Minneapolis in 2003 as an at home computer repair company focused on supporting women users. Since 2007, Lisa moved into remote support. If a remote session cannot repair a computer, then a home visit is requested. Lisa says, "We are always looking out for your best interest and your pocket book!"
Lisa will be assigning Richard and Jason as her Mill City Commons "tech guys". She is also offering Mill City Commons members a 20% discount. Please identify yourself as an MCC member when calling. You'll find pricing here.

Marcy Holmes-5th Street Southeast Walking Tour with Preserve Minneapolis

Sunday, July 15, 1:00-3:00 pm; Meet at the Woodbury Fisk Residence424 5th Street SE

The Fifth Street Southeast Historic District began as a scattered residential development in the late 1850s, and expanded on the edge of the pioneer milling town of St. Anthony. During the early years of St. Anthony and after the merge with Minneapolis in 1872, Fifth Street Southeast remained one of the finer streets of residence. Today the area contains combinations of large and small homes in a wide range of architectural styles; remarkably these buildings have great historic character despite their age(s). Join us to experience this wonderful historic district! Complimentary tickets for members who register on the MCC website by July 13; $5 for walk-ins and guests.

World View: Travel Peru in NE Minneapolis

Tuesday, July 17, 7:00 - 8:30 pm; ArtAndes, Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson Street NE #285

Melanie Ebertz first traveled to Peru in the mid-eighties with an interest in textiles and hiking the villages of the Andes. She developed a great

passion, respect and knowledge for the culture of the Andean people, and built strong relationships with the PERUVIAN weavers. This led to the creation of ArtAndes, a small business devoted to the design and marketing of fine textiles from Peru and unique cultural small group trips. Her commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those with whom she works resulted in the creation of Comunidad, a nonprofit organization committed to providing the people of the Andes opportunities and tools to sustain themselves through education and nutrition. Hear Melanie's story and meet Peruvian weaver Wilber Quispe at her studio at the Northrup King Building.

Did You Know?

Social connections contribute to positive mental, physical, and emotional health. An article by Caring Right at Home correlates loneliness with increased blood pressure, sleep disorders, depression, dementia, and a variety of other chronic health issues. As we age, we may encounter life changes that contribute to social isolation including the loss of loved ones, the loss of driving ability, long-distance family relationships, or a decreased level of confidence related to health issues such as arthritis, stroke, incontinence, depression, or memory loss. Intentional efforts to maintain social engagement promote wellness in aging. Ongoing social connections, transportation options, supportive services in the home, and assistive devices can help to keep older adults socially engaged.
