Marcy Holmes-5th Street Southeast Walking Tour with Preserve Minneapolis
Sunday, July 15, 1:00-3:00 pm; Meet at the Woodbury Fisk Residence, 424 5th Street SE The Fifth Street Southeast Historic District began as a scattered residential development in the late 1850s, and expanded on the edge of the pioneer milling town of St. Anthony. During the early years of St. Anthony and after the merge with Minneapolis in 1872, Fifth Street Southeast remained one of the finer streets of residence. Today the area contains combinations of large and small homes in a wide range of architectural styles; remarkably these buildings have great historic character despite their age(s). Join us to experience this wonderful historic district! Complimentary tickets for members who register on the MCC website by July 13; $5 for walk-ins and guests.

World View: Travel Peru in NE Minneapolis
Tuesday, July 17, 7:00 - 8:30 pm; ArtAndes, Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson Street NE #285
Melanie Ebertz first traveled to Peru in the mid-eighties with an interest in textiles and hiking the villages of the Andes. She developed a great

passion, respect and knowledge for the culture of the Andean people, and built strong relationships with the PERUVIAN weavers. This led to the creation of ArtAndes, a small business devoted to the design and marketing of fine textiles from Peru and unique cultural small group trips. Her commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those with whom she works resulted in the creation of Comunidad, a nonprofit organization committed to providing the people of the Andes opportunities and tools to sustain themselves through education and nutrition. Hear Melanie's story and meet Peruvian weaver Wilber Quispe at her studio at the Northrup King Building.

A note from Patti Ries, Mill City Commons
Program Coordinator
Did You Know?
Mill City Commons provides many opportunities for social connections. Author Dan Buettner reports that social connectedness is an essential component of Blue Zones around the world. Buettner's research reveals that belonging to and regularly participating in a faith community, investing time and energy in intergenerational family relationships and rituals, and surrounding ourselves with a "right tribe" of supportive friends contribute to wellness and longevity.
