Executive Director Update

If you're looking for a book to read this weekend, consider picking up (perhaps once again) The Blue Zones by Dan Buettner. Although I have read many articles about Blue Zones, I haven't actually read the book. The Blue Zones is our selected book for MCC's June Rendezvous Readers Book Chat. We're moving our chat to the Target Lounge at the Guthrie. Plan to pick up a cup of coffee at Level Five Express and join us under the Endless Bridge from 9:30-10:30am Wednesday, June 6.

This Memorial weekend, I am visiting family in North Dakota and plan to find time for the 3R's (rest, relaxation and reading). The office will be closed Friday and Monday.   -- Linnea

You'll find that the stunning bluffs, bald eagles, herons, otters and other wildlife often seen on these trips make you feel far from urban life. Wilderness Inquiry and the National Park Service provide staff, Voyageur canoes, equipment, shuttles, and interpretation.  Everyone is included -- all ages, abilities, and no previous paddling experience is required.  Register for a trip this Saturday, May 26th, or one of the many others scheduled throughout the summer and fall. Most trips are $45 for adults and $30 for youth 17 and under. Click here for more details.

MCC Members Tamra and George Nelson and other MCC members and  neighbors who want to know "What's Up With Downtown Parks?"   Please join them Wednesday, May 30th from 4:30 to 6:00pm, Pohlad Auditorium, Minneapolis Central Library, to hear about the various initiatives stretching from the Walker Sculpture Garden through Loring Park, the Greenway, Peavey Plaza, Nicollet Mall, and the "Gateway" down to the Mississippi and along the riverbanks from the Stone Arch Bridge to the city's northern boundary. Speakers from the private sector, the Downtown Improvement District, and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will seek to lay out the various dimensions of the projects under consideration.  The event is free and all are welcome.
