Executive Director Update 

We've moved up our celebrated Soup Soiree to this Sunday so it doesn't fall on the same week as the also popular Last Tuesday Happy Hour. Thank you to MCC Members Ellen and Jan Breyer for hosting!  If you would like to join us, we could use another variety of soup or salad...just let me know when you register.   

It's not to late to sign up for this Thursday's Hennepin Avenue Church Art Tour. We'll learn about the exquisite paintings donated by T.B. Walker and the church architecture. After the tour, enjoy lunch Dutch treat at Gather restaurant in the Walker Art Center just across the street.

Hennepin Avenue Church Art Tour     

Thursday, March 8, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm;  511 Groveland Avenue

Tour this beautiful church and visit the gallery that houses artwork acquired by Thomas Barlow Walker (founder and namesake of the Walker Art Center) and later donated to the church. Walker began collecting paintings in about 1874. In 1879 he began to admit the public into his house to view his growing art collection. Walker built at least four additions to the house at 803 Hennepin in order to house and display his collection of art objects. In 1926 Walker completed a new gallery building on the site of the present Walker Art Center.

Guthrie Play Reading: Hay Fever

Packed with wit, precision, and sheer outrageousness, Noël Coward's Hay Fever centers on the eccentric Bliss family: Judith, a recently retired actress; David, a novelist; and Sorel and Simon, their two oddball children. When each member invites a guest to their country estate without the others realizing it, it is the guests who pay the price. Don't miss Coward's delightfully infectious comedy of bad manners about a weekend getaway gone awry. A Guthrie dramaturg provides scripts and assigns parts.

MCC Member Peggy Lucas shares this invitation from the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District for their Annual Downtown Greening Awards. Hear "What Makes Great Cities Great ... and Why it Matters", Tuesday, March 13, 4:00-5:45. Alex Garvin, CEO of AGA Public Realm Strategists and Professor of Urban Planning and Management at Yale University discusses the past, present and future of public spaces. Dying Well; Honoring Choices
