Executive Director Update
MCC Member Sheila Livingston keeps us up to date on special opportunities at the Guthrie. Sheila says there is a lot of interest in the Guthrie's production of End of the Rainbow. Olivier Award-winner Tracie Bennett plays Judy Garland. There are post-play discussions after matinee performances on February 12, 18, and March 3rd. These are opportunities to meet the actors, artists and theater staff. In addition, the Guthrie Theater is offering Mill City Commons members one time complimentary access to a "How'd They Do That" workshop where we will hear from Trevor Long, the End of the Rainbow Assistant Production Director and other behind the scenes professionals this coming Saturday (February 11) morning from 9-11 a.m. Tickets are available by calling or stopping by the Guthrie Theater ticket office -- let them know you are a Mill City Commons member for a free HTDT workshop ticket. Please see this attachment for details. Thank you, Sheila, for making these connections for us!
See you soon! -- Linnea |

Guthrie Play Reading: The Birds
Tuesday, February 21, 6:30 - 9:30 pm; Guthrie Theater's 8th Floor Learning Center, 818 S. Second Street
Mysterious masses of birds have begun to violently attack at high tide, driving strangers Nat and Diane to take refuge in an isolated, abandoned house by the sea and form a bond to survive their haunting new circumstance. With no electricity and scarce food, the tension is palpable and hope is waning. Yet if two is company, three is a crowd, as the sudden arrival of a young woman with a mysterious nature of her own ruffles feathers in the house and quickly threatens to destroy their so-called sanctuary. A Guthrie dramaturg provides scripts and assigns parts. If you'd rather listen than read, let Linnea know.

News From Members
MCC Member and author Margaret Wurtele invites members to a reading from her debut novel The Golden Hour, 7:00 pm February 8 at the Loft Literary Center, 1011 Washington Avenue South. The Golden Hour begins in the autumn of 1943 when German forces invade the peaceful vineyards and olive groves of Giovanna Bellini's village in Tuscany. At seventeen, she is at first intrigued with the dashing Nazi officers who have taken over her house and the school where she works. Her life changes when her brother joins the partisans and recruits her to smuggle food. What begins as a lark takes a drastic turn when she's asked to hide a wounded freedom fighter, who is not just a partisan but also a Jew. A review from the Amazon Vine:
"It is heartbreaking in places, it is romance so tender, it is terror, adventure, history as it could have really happened. I cannot recommend this book enough. It was a joy to read. Margaret Wurtele has written a wonderful first novel. Keep them coming you have me as a future reader." For more information, about The Loft event, please click here.
