If you haven't yet had the opportunity, we're accepting donations through Friday. See the column on the right for more details. MCC Author Celebration: Lawrence Perlman

What motivated a retired lawyer and business executive to write a novel? MCC Member Lawrence Perlman will tell us how he was inspired to write The Last Layer -- a mystery that includes murder, the elite French National Police and two daring jewelry robberies in the heart of Paris. Enjoy hearing Lawrence's story and social time over wine and cheese with neighbors.

Nutcracker: The Lost Act
Friday, December 16, 8:00 - 10:00 pm;  The Ritz Theater, 345 13th AvBallet of the Dolls Nutcrackerenue NE Nutcracker: The Lost Act is a new holiday "joie de vivre" show in burlesque style, featuring a bevy of beauties making merry. No one can make more fun of the sacred and taboo than Mr. Johnson. Everything is up for grabs (and no one is safe) when he decides to do a burlesque cabaret holiday spectacular! Give yourself the gift of kitsch this season and join the Dolls, Amy Buchanan, and the ladies of Le Cirque Rouge in a celebration of laughter and good-spirited fun. The Dolls' Nutcracker is one perpetually popular show that has come to be the holiday entertainment of Minneapolis lore.

Hippocrates Cafe: An Evening with Colin McPhillamy

MCC Members Ellie Hands and Dick Olson both asked me to pass along this invitation: University of Minnesota Physicians Mill City Clinic and Hippocrates Cafe Productions invite you to an evening with renowned British actor, Colin McPhillamy. Colin is currently starring in "Charley's Aunt" at the Guthrie Theater and will read from his book "The Tree House and Other Stories," a collection of pieces originally broadcast on the BBC. Minneapolis 'Water Works' Site (Fuji Ya) Community Meeting
Thursday, December 15, 6:00 - 8:00 pm; Mill City Museum, 704 Second Street South 
The ideas will flow when the Minneapolis Parks Foundation and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board invite the public to participate in a 'designer-ask' community meeting about a potential new park along the city's Central Riverfront. The community meeting is the first step in a preliminary feasibility study that will explore options for what could be a significant new park destination in downtown Minneapolis. The public will be invited to a second community meeting in late February, to critique options and review the team's findings.  The Minneapolis Parks Foundation will announce details about that meeting in January 2012. Holiday Show and Sale
November 1 to December 30, 2011; Textile Center Shop and Joan Mondale Gallery, 3000 University Ave. SE 
The Holiday Show and Sale features high-quality fiber art by more than 150 artists from Minnesota and across the country.
The Textile Center dedicated its beautiful gallery in Joan Mondale's honor in May 2004. Joan has been a tireless supporter of all art forms including fiber art since her days in public service. She was the honorary chairperson for the capital campaign for the Textile Center.

The MacPhail Spotlight Series showcases the finest musicians in six concerts staged in MacPhail's stunning Antonello Hall.
