Rendezvous Readers' Book Chat! 

 

Join your friends and neighbors at Guthrie's Level Five Express tomorrow morning at 9:00 for our monthly Rendezvous Readers' Book Chat. This month's book is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens -- MCC Member Barbara Goldner will get the conversation going. Join us for fun and fellowship even if you haven't read the book.  Consider bringing a donation for our Turkey, Dressings, and Extra Helpings Drive. We'll be accepting donations at events as well as drop off locations through December 15. You'll find details in the right hand column.

Guthrie Play Reading: Charley's Aunt
Tuesday, December 6, 6:30 - 9:30 pm;  The Guthrie 8th Floor Learning Center, 818 South 2nd Street

Join yoCharley's Auntur friends and neighbors at the Guthrie to read the script of this hilarious tale of young love and preposterous deception. Widely regarded as one of the most sensational and entertaining farces of all time, Charley's Aunt centers on two Oxford undergraduates in search of a chaperone for a proper visit from their girlfriends. Jack and Charley manage to persuade fellow undergraduate Fancourt "Babbs" Babberly to impersonate a millionaire aunt in this hilarious tale.

Social Bridge

Join advanced or intermediate bridge players for a round of social bridge. You are expected to come with a partner at your level. (Advanced players play all the major conventions comfortably.) Men's Coffee and Conversation

Caffeine and camaraderie for the male members of MCC! This group meets every other Thursday at Nicollet Island Inn and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going. Doug Baker Sr. leads the conversation on "Living the Vital Life".

MIA Tour: Edo Pop
Tuesday, December 13, 1:30 - 2:30 pm;  Minneapolis Institute of Art, 2400 3rd Avenue South
 

This exhibition showcases 160 of the MIA's best prints by the genre's greatest artists. WMIA Edo Popith their crisp outlines, unmodulated colors, and surprising vantage points, the images are as fresh and captivating as when they were produced. Sensuality, fashion, decadent entertainments, and urban pastimes all reflect the popular tastes of young urban sophisticates of Japan's pre-modern era.
In addition, the exhibition features the works of contemporary artists who are inspired by Japanese woodblock prints and the concepts underlying the floating world.

MCC Author Celebration: Lawrence Perlman

What motivated a retired lawyer and business executive to write a novel? MCC Member Lawrence Perlman will tell us how he was inspired to write The Last Layer -- a mystery that includes murder, the elite French National Police and two daring jewelry robberies in the heart of Paris. Enjoy hearing Lawrence's story and social time over wine and cheese with neighbors.

Nutcracker: The Lost Act

MCC Member Penny Winton invites other members to attend a private sale of household items "ranging from junk to Italian Flex Form couches and Picasso plates" at Washburn Lofts, 700 S. 2nd St., apartment #100The sale will be held on Thursday, December 8th, from 11:00am to 3:00 pm. 

 

MCC Member and artist Patty Canney would like everyone to know about the opportunity for Second Saturday Open Studios on December 10, from 11:00am - 6:00pm at the California Building in NE Minneapolis.  Visit Patty at her studio which is #406.  The California Building is at 2205 California St. NE.  

 

Mill City Times MCC Members Kim Eslinger and Dave Tinjum have created a metro website devoted specifically to our neighborhood. It's a place to go to find out what's happening ... whether it's a new restaurant opening, a local event, proposed new construction, etc.

Holiday Show and Sale
November 1 to December 30, 2011; Textile Center Shop and Joan Mondale Gallery, 3000 University Ave. SE 
The Holiday Show and Sale features high-quality fiber art by more than 150 artists from Minnesota and across the country.
The Textile Center dedicated its beautiful gallery in Joan Mondale's honor in May 2004. Joan has been a tireless supporter of all art forms including fiber art since her days in public service. She was the honorary chairperson for the capital campaign for the Textile Center.

2011 - 2012 MacPhail Spotlight Series

The MacPhail Spotlight Series showcases the finest musicians in six concerts staged in MacPhail's stunning Antonello Hall.
