Turkey, Dressings & Extra Helpings Launches

-- A note from MCC Members Delia and Tyrone Bujold about Mill City Commons' Fourth Annual Holiday Drive

Four years ago, several people in Mill City Commons hatched an idea: Let's use the Christmas Season to encourage the generosity of our members and do our part in addressing the needs of our neighbors on the North Side. We solicited modest contributions from the membership to create a fund from which we could purchase a small number of turkeys or hams to present to families on the North Side. The idea caught on and soon we had enough money to buy turkeys, hams and other food for 50 families. Thus was born The Turkey Trust.

Small but generous ideas have a way of growing. And four years later, our Turkey Trust has a new name: Turkey, Dressings (to cover our effort to collect clean, usable warm clothing), and Extra Helpings (our effort to provide the accompaniments to a good Holiday Dinner, as well as small unwrapped gifts. Any leftover funds collected are used to stock a local food shelf).

We are at it again, soliciting money to buy the food, collect warm clothing for children and adults for our North Side neighbors. Click here for a flier with details on how you can be a part of this project. Thank you in advance for your generosity!  -- Delia and Tyrone

Nosy Neighbor Tour: The Ritz Theater
Tuesday, November 29, 4:00 - 4:45 pm;  The Ritz Theater, 345 13th Avenue NE
Ritz Theater

Designed in 1926 by the well known architects Liebenberg & Kaplan, the theater opened its doors in 1928 and was the focal point of community life during an era when everyone went to the movies on Saturday nights. Now the theater has become a focal point for the preservation of the "small-town" character of 13th Avenue.  Ballet of the Dolls has been leading the charge to renovate the Ritz, a development that has been a catalyst for economic and cultural renewal of this business corridor, propelling and sustaining commercial vitality and residential stability.
