James Ford Bell Library Tour: Ricci Map   Ricci Map

Friday, April 29, 10:00-11:00am; James Ford Bell Library, 309 19th Avenue S. 

Tour the library and view the rare Kunyu wanguo quantu, or Map of the Ten Thousand Countries of the Earth, the oldest surviving Chinese map to show the Americas.  It is a xylograph (wood block print) on six scrolls of fine native paper, each scroll measuring approximately 2 feet by 5.75 feet.  Li Ahizao (1565-1630), a Chinese mathematician, astronomer and geographer, was the Chinese cartographer who engraved the map.

Andy Trawick presents information on synchronization of mail, contacts, pictures, etc. for sharing information among various devices or among family and friends. The discussion will cover MobileMe, Gmail, Amazon, and other 'cloud' products.

Social Bridge

Join advanced or intermediate bridge players for a round of social bridge.  You are expected to come with a partner at your level. (Advanced players play all the major conventions comfortably.) Great Decisions Discussion Group  

Monday, May 9, 7:00-9:00 pm.  Home of MCC members Dobson and Jane West, 1700 Mount Curve Avenue, Minneapolis

A Great Decisions Discussion Group is composed of interested individuals who want an opportunity to learn and participate in the foreign policy decision-making process.  Groups are centered around the Great Decisions briefing book.  This month's topic is the Middle East: A Really New Middle East?, hosted by Dobson and Jane West. Briefing material will be chosen in advance by the guest speaker, Tom Hanson.  Read Tom Hanson's bio here.

Sorella wine buyer Darrin Minehan will be leading a guided tour of Spain's most important wine regions with wine samples that demonstrate the tradition and progress of this diverse country.  A wide variety of styles and price ranges will be available for tasting, and special pricing will be made available to attendees.

Minnesota Genealogical Society Library Tour  

Friday, May 13, 10:00-11:30am.  Minnesota Genealogical Society, 1185 Concord St. N., South St. Paul 

Join Minnesota Genealogical Society (MGS) President Terry Kita and Librarian John Schade for an introduction to their library containing over 50,000 items including books, microfilm, microfiche, journals, and paper family history records.  Members will learn from Terry and John how to begin a family history.  Members are welcome to linger -- the library is not open to the public on Fridays.

MSP International Film Festival  

April 14-May 5. St. Anthony Main Theatre, 115 SE Main St.

The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul will present over 170 films from some 50 countries at the five-screen St. Anthony Main Theatre. For three weeks, the Twin Cities celebrates the arrival of the best of international and independent filmmaking in the region. Click here to learn more.

Walker Art Center ... Jewelry Mart

Saturday May 7, 11:00am - 5:00pm; 1750 Hennepin Ave. 

Just in time for Mother's Day, nineteen local jewelry artists and designers will be at the Walker Art Center for the Local Jewelry Artist Mart in Medtronic Gallery. All proceeds support the Walker's artistic and educational programs.

MCC member Sheila Livingston, suggests a fun evening at the Guthrie Theater...the upcoming Costume Ball gala...complete with cocktails, dining, and dancing!  Costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Northern Spark Festival

Saturday, June 4, 8:55pm (sunset) - Sunday, June 5, 5:28am (sunrise);  Stone Arch Bridge and other multiple locations.  

For one night only, more than 60 regional and national artists together with the Twin Cities' arts community will display new art installations at public places and unexpected locations throughout the city. Directed and produced by

MCC Tai Chi   

 

 MCC launched a four class short introductory course for Tai Chi this week. Our Second class is Monday, May 2 @ 10:30am - Washburn Lofts Community Room, 700 South 2nd Street. Open to members and guests. Cost is $12 per class for members, $15 per class for non-members. Please let Linnea know if you would like to join us or learn more.

All level of walkers welcome for this early morning walk along the banks of the Mississippi River. An MCC volunteer leads each walk.


Hatha Yoga

Wednesdays and Fridays,

8:00 - 9:15 am

This alignment-based class is held at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis, 212 3rd Ave N, Suite 205.

Purchase a 12-class pass for $132 directly from YCM to use as your schedule allows, or drop in on a class for $12.50.
