Nosy Neighbor Tour: Northern Clay Center
February 10, 2:00-3:00 pm. 2424 Franklin Ave E.
The tour will include a look at the sales gallery, classrooms, glazing areas, studio spaces, and kiln room. See work from various artists and gain an understanding of the process of creating and firing a pot! The tour will also visit the current exhibitions "Three Jerome Artists" and "Fogelberg and Red Wing Artists", both of which feature the recent ceramic work of Minnesota's emerging ceramic artists. Social Bridge
February 16, 3:00-5:30 pm. Stone Arch Lofts Community Room, 600 S 2nd St.
An accredited American Contract Bridge teacher, Mignon Nearmyer, will begin the session with a 10-15 minute lesson and discussion on a particular aspect of the game. When formal play begins she will give instructions and be available to answer questions throughout the afternoon. Even if you have played social bridge before, we are sure you will learn something new. You are expected to come with a partner. If you need help finding a partner, contact Leah Battin at 612-455-3329, and she will try to assist you. Plan to arrive early as we will begin play immediately at 3:00 pm. Compleat Scholar - The Discovery of Ancient Egypt Past and Present: The History of Egyptology
February 16, 6:00-8:00 pm. Guthrie Theater Livingston Conference Room, 818 S 2nd St. Perhaps no other venerable civilization has so thoroughly captured the hearts and minds of the western world as that of the ancient Egyptians. This illustrated lecture will reveal how this complex and colorful land became the known world's leader in art and architecture, science and industry, religion and philosophy. Learn about how this lost civilization of temples, tombs, and hieroglyphs was rediscovered in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Hear stories about the discovery of the great pyramids at Giza, the excavation and cataloging of kings' tombs, and how amazing treasures found their way into both private hands and national museums. At our first program this month, we invite futurist Dr. Arthur Harkins to discuss the best ways to develop human capital to maximize leadership and innovation so that we as a nation can stay competitive in the global 21st century. Dr. Harkins is co-creator of the Leapfrog Institute. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development at the University of Minnesota. LearningLife Forum: Witness to History - Josie Johnson

This monthly forum examines firsthand perspectives on the decisive moments and movements that have shaped our history. CPED-Planning is conducting a historic resource survey in several neighborhoods to assess the potential for historic properties. This project is called the Central Core Historic Resources Survey. The first public meetings held this February will introduce the survey project and offer an opportunity for the community to provide information and ideas about historic resources within the survey area.

MCC New Member Spotlight
MCC welcomed new member Mark Suess in January. Mark moved to the Minneapolis last spring and is part of MCC's burgeoning Lakes Village. Mark learned about MCC through friends and members Mary Margaret MacMillan and Larry Neumann. He had a warm reception when attending an MCC social event and felt a desire to know and grow with the organization and its members.
Mark is not only an MCC member but also a preferred service provide in our Marketplace. Mark is an interior designer who finds inspiration near and far, traveling the world, observing how people live. Design isn't just Mark's profession, it's his basic instinct.
