A Note from MCC Executive Director

We are back in the swing for the New Year with some fabulous programming. I am very excited that we have added a second Strength, Balance, and Stretch (SBS) class Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. for members requesting an afternoon exercise option. Our Monday 7:30 a.m. class has been very well attended and gets rave reviews from members. You will find a link with more details under MCC Ongoing Fitness Opportunities. 501F1T has been a wonderful partner -- we appreciate all of our preferred providers. You can find a complete list on our members only website.

There are so many wonderful programs and activities this month -- I look forward to seeing you soon at an upcoming event!        Warmest regards, Linnea Tweed

Preservation programs such as the National Register of Historic Places and the Historic American Building Survey (HABS) recognize, and in a limited way, protect our historic built environment. Learn about historic property preservation and documentation programs in Minnesota, including how they started, how they work, and how effective they are. You will hear several fascinating stories about both well known historic places in the Twin Cities, as well as examples of "vernacular architecture" that have benefited from being designated a historic property. You will hear about some popular misconceptions related to historic properties and have the chance to ask your own questions about what it means for a building or location to be designated a historic landmark. Members: $20, guests: $30. MCC members, sign up here!  Guests, email us.

Guthrie Play Reading: The Winter's Tale
Tuesday, January 18, 6:30-9:30 pm. Guthrie Theater Livingston Conference Room, 818 S 2nd St.

Play readings are hosted by a member of the Guthrie Staff or an Artist affiliated with the play. Participants will be assigned parts for reading and may rotate parts as necessary. All selections correspond with plays being staged at the Guthrie. No theater experience necessary, come one and all!

Shakespeare

The Winter's Tale, with its improbable twists and turns, signals Shakespeare's mature and inspired creativity. This broadly appealing romance dazzles and delights with a lovely range of poetic and dramatic invention. As is often the case in Shakespeare's writings, this is a universe where time and space intermingle freely, as do rash impulses, hasty decisions, second thoughts and tardy recognitions of the truth. Jonathan Munby, whose credits include productions at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Donmar Warehouse and Washington D.C.'s Shakespeare Theatre Company, makes his Guthrie directing debut.
