President's Message

Raul_Papaleo_photo

Last week the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce organized the Sustainability Innovation in Brazil breakfast seminar. With over 45 attendees present, the event was a success in illustrating the development and growth in the sustainability and clean technology sector of Brazil. The BCCC would like to thank the government of Ontario, the Innovolve Group and all of the speakers who participated for their support in making this event possible.

Our next major event is our annual Doing Business with Brazil series that will focus on emerging opportunities relating in particular to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games which will both be hosted by Brazil. We would like to invite you all to participate in this upcoming event taking place on Monday, June 20th that is likely to have a positive outcome.

Once again we would like to request the support of all our members, especially in view of our new website, in providing information, news and also suggestions. We look further to seeing you in our next event.

       Sincerely,

Raul Papaleo

President

Size isn't everything, Chambers listings show

(Financial Post)

When it comes to law firms, size isn't everything. Full service doesn't necessarily mean best service. And variety doesn't always bring quality. That's what Legal Post found when we took a close look at the 2011 Chambers Global rankings. Law firms are fond of emphasizing the number of lawyers in the firm who made the rankings. Fair enough.

Petrobras to limit investment

(Rio Times online)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Petrobras, the Brazilian oil giant, looks set to bow to pressure and abandon plans to increase investments by US$35 billion in its current five-year plan. The proposed increase in expenditure would have been funded by increased borrowing, or fuel price rises. The federal government is determined to avoid such increases as it battles to limit inflation, which hit 6.51 percent last month.

5th Brazil Film Fest

Festival

Partnership and sponsorship opportunities for 2011's Festival.

Over the past few years, slowly but steadily, Brazil has been climbing the heights to become the 5th biggest economy in the world, and now it's even preparing to host two of the most important global events: the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2014 World Cup. All this has inspired the 5th Brazil Film Fest in Toronto to begin a celebration of the diverse and rich culture of Brazil's many states, starting in 2011 with the theme of Bahia, a place for everybody

The Brazil Film Fest not only showcases Brazilian films, but also works to create opportunities to develop and consolidate professional and creative contacts between Brazil and Canada. If your company has an active presence in the Canadian and/or the Brazilian markets, or if your company wants to have a presence in these two markets, the festival can be the opportunity you have been looking for.

The 2010 Brazil Film Fest had partnerships and co-presentations with some of the most influential arts/film festivals of Toronto, like Hot Docs, Inside Out and Contact Toronto Photography Festival. It also had a great media coverage and marketing effort, with paid ads in the print media, and posters spread throughout the city, which helped to raise the Festival's presence in Toronto. For this year, the Festival is co-presenting a film with Hot Docs and there are much more to come.

Your sponsorship for 2011 will help consolidate your marketing strategy, either introducing or reinforcing your brand amongst a highly qualified audience of Brazilians and Canadians.

When: October 27th to 30th, 2011

Where: Opening night at TIFF Bell Lightbox and all other screenings at                 The Royal at 608 College St.
