President's Message

During this week the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce had an outstanding participation at the PDAC 2011 Convention, promoted worldwide by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the most important event in the World for the Mining Sector that, this year, is being attended by more than 20,000 people.. The Brazil Canada Chamber of Commerce performed two events within PDAC. The "Brazil-Canada Mining Breakfast" on March 7th, at the Heenan Blaikie's office, and the "Project Presentations and Networking Event " on March 8th, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. With more than 120 attendants, a new record for BCCC, the audience had the opportunity to get in contact with several presenters, being updated about the Brazilian and Canadian Government positioning, the Industry projects, the Financing and Capital sources and the Legal and Advisory sources. We found that, through the presentations, all participants have a more clear understanding about the special moment we all are living in the Brazil-Canada relationship and the opportunities we all have to increase the level of mutual business. . Yamana Advances Agua Rica Strategy Through Agreement with Xstrata and Goldcorp - Targetting Integration Into Alumbrera
Yamana announced an arrangement, subject to formal documentation, with Xstrata Queensland Limited ("Xstrata") and Goldcorp Inc. ("Goldcorp") that would facilitate the ultimate integration of Agua Rica into Minera Alumbrera ("Alumbrera"). Agua Rica is a 100% Yamana owned, development stage project in the province of Catamarca, Argentina and is located approximately 35 kilometres from the currently operating Alumbrera mine. Subject to Xstrata and Goldcorp exercising their option to have Alumbrera acquire Agua Rica, and following the integration of the projects, Xstrata, Goldcorp and Yamana would own interests in the combined project of 50%, 37.5% and 12.5% respectively, consistent with their current interests in Alumbrera.

Brazil at heart of Google's Latin America strategy

Brazil is on the way to becoming Google Inc's sixth-largest global market, Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said on Friday as the company opens new offices in the fast-growing Latin American region.
The world's No. 1 Internet search company saw its revenue in the region surge last year on the back of brisk economic growth, with countries showing growth of 50 percent to 100 percent last year
"That means you're almost doubling (revenue) every year," Schmidt told Reuters in the company's offices in Buenos Aires. "That's a lot due to the effect of the economic recovery from a global recession, but also to the development of broadband and the development of the electronic commerce."

Brazil´s GDP Rises 7,5% in 2010, achieving best result in 25 years
Finance Minister says economy shows significant and sustainable growth potential.

The Federative Republic of Brazil announced today that its economy saw a 7.5 percent increase in annual real gross domestic product (GDP) in 2010 as compared to the previous year, the highest level of growth since 1986. According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the total output of goods and services in Brazil for the year 2010 reached R$ 3.67 trillion (approximately US$ 2.1 trillion, using the 2010 average exchange rate). Brazil and South Africa more popular - BBC poll

The number of people who see Brazil as having a positive influence in the world is rising rapidly, according to a BBC World Service poll of 27 countries.
The country is regarded positively by 49%, compared with 40% last year - the largest jump by any of the 16 nations respondents are asked to comment on.

SIAL - The North American Food Marketplace
Conference & Trade Show
SIAL Canada is an international tradeshow dedicated to food industry professionals which targets the North American market. Each year, over 530 agrifood exhibitors and 12,000 professionals come together for this uniting event.
The Brazil Pavilion at SIAL 2011 will have 75 m2 of area, space that will accommodate 20 exhibitors. The SECOM team from the Brazil Consulate in Toronto will be responsible for organizing and representing Brazil at the exhibition. The Foreign Ministry will finance the full rent for the space and the decoration of the booth, while exhibitors will be responsible for transporting their goods, customs fees and personal expenses of its representatives at the fair. The selection process to organize and integrate the Brazilian stand will be based on product quality and the first companies to confirm their presence will have priority.

Dear BCCC Members,
